Yaesu DR-1X/DR-2X Linking with ASL & WIRES-X

My goal is to link two Yaesu DR-2X repeaters together. I want to use ASL for linking analog and WIRES-X for linking YSF. I have seen a lot of different documentation on using ASL with these repeaters but I have not seen anybody set it up as I am trying to. Does anyone know if this will actually work or if there is a way to make it work? Thanks in advance for your time.

I don’t believe that this will work. To use ‘pure-play’ Wires-X you need to connect the DR-2X to a HRI-200. As soon as the HRI is connected to the repeater, the options port where you might connect a third party controller, is disabled. In your post, you mention YSF (Yaesu System Fusion) which dispite the name is not owned/maintained by Yeasu. YSF is a parallel third parth network used to transport C4FM traffic. YSF is used on digital hotspots. The main difference is that Wires-X fully supports ‘Rooms’. When the HRI-200 is registered it will get a Room number and you can then connect to other rooms. Using YSF, you can’t connect directly to Wires-X rooms. You instead get connected via a bridge between to two networks. It is the larger Rooms (America-KC Wide, Texas-Nexus etc) that tend to have associated bridges between the Wires-X and YSF networks. There is a Yaesu video by John Kruk explaining how to use the options port and third party controllers.

Thank you for the insight. I did end up watching that video last night when I was doing some research. So would we be able to put ASL on the repeater and then add WIRES-X via an RF link?

Yes, but I have always tried to avoid using RF links. A bit annoying that that is the only option. There are very likely Test Points on the two 400’s inside the DR-2X or on the external controller that could expose the signals needed to connect an AllStar node. But with these repeaters costing a grand a piece it might be an experiment too far.

Yeah well that seems like the only option like you said unfortunately.

So my understanding is I need the following to put ASL onto a DR-1X:

Masters Communications RA-DR1X
Custom Comms MABEL DR-1x Control Board
Custom Cable from URI Cables
Raspberry Pi of some flavor
