Wireguard client on ASL RPI image?

Has anyone successfully installed a working Wireguard VPN client on the ASL beta RPI image.

I consider myself experienced operating OpenVPN, and hope to migrate to Wireguard. But I have not been able to get Wireguard to work on a RPI. I have a Wireguard server running on a Debian VPS, and it works fine with Windows and Andriod Wireguard clients. The Wireguard client software on the ASL RPI runs but never connects to the server. I even tried connecting to a commercial VPN service with Wireguard. No joy. No firewall is enabled. The OpenVPN client on the same RPI connects works fine. I upgraded the ASL RPI image to Debian 11.8 and tried Wireguard again. Still no joy.

I’ve run out of ideas, even after several Internet searches. I may have to stay with OpenVPN for RPI nodes.

Hi!

Although I haven’t used it on a Raspberry Pi, PiVPN works seamlessly for me in an LXC container. It can be downloaded from https://www.pivpn.io/

It is designed for Pi so it should work well. There are many YouTube video guides on getting it working on Wireguard. I set up mine based on this video https://youtu.be/V9sWhnYQvpE?si=ZOWwW1W4Xuau1ZUw but other videos show how it can be done on rpi.

Good luck!

Anything that works with a Debian 12 Bookworm-based OS (“Raspberry Pi OS” 12) will work fine on an ASLv3 appliance image. As long as it works with NetworkManager and Firewalld, there shouldn’t be any problems using Wireguard/wg-quick (for example).
