Version number and upgrade question

Quick question, I just went thru upgrade on ASL3. Looking at version number in asl-menu and it shows asl version as 3.2.0-1.deb, is this correct?
I used “apt upgrade” response was that it needed 159MB and needed an additional 470MB os disk space. So after checking version number and expecting 3.4.xxxx I ran apt upgrade again (yes, did apt update first) and it shows the same added space need…

What did I get wrong?

ASL3 is a collection of many packages and each package (and the RPi image) have their own version numbers. For this reason it’s a bit hard to have one single version number to reference. The asl-menu title line shows the version number of “app_rpt”, currently “3.2.0”.

Note: you can use the asl-show-version command to see all of the ASL3 packages you have installed.

Q? when updating/upgrading, were you following the Updating ASL3 instructions?

Q? where/why were you expecting to see 3.4.xxxx?

couldn’t do as per the instructions as it says to use web browser but all I get when pointing at the box port 80 is the Apache default page. However, I tried a second time but this time watched it and there was a y/n question where n=keep old versions, and when I was oit of the room I guess that is what happened the first try, the second time I intervened and now showing version of asl3 being 3.6.0-1.deb so I’m guessing its now updated. I see new files in /etc/asterisk now. Now I need to try the alleged ability to send a reboot to the PC. Which is why I wanted to update/upgrade

Which instructions specifically are you referring to? It sounds like you were following the Pi Appliance directions but aren’t using the Pi Appliance? If it’s a standard Linux box you’re installing ASL3 on, then it will function like a normal Linux install. You can install the asl3-pi-appliance package and get most of the ‘goodies’ but that isn’t 100% guaranteed to work on systems that aren’t Pi appliances.

Well, re-looking " Pi Appliance" looked like another menu choice not a heading of a group of choices. Not sure what Pi Appliance is. But using just conventional Linux update/upgrade got me to version 3.6.xxx. Now to see if I can reboot from a dtmf command.

And I did exactly what is shown for *9006, added in [functions] stanza 9006 = cmd,//usr/sbin.reboot but executing that command does nothing. Other functions work properly, like *904…

So back around to asking for input on what I’m missing.

As I commented earlier, “ASL3 is a collection of many packages”. One of those packages is the “asl3” package (currently @ v3.6.0) … from the GitHub ASL3 repo. Another collection of packages, those starting with “asl3-asterisk”, have a much longer version string that include both “asterisk” (currently v20.11.0) and “app_rpt” (currently v3.2.0) … and the menus are showing you the latter “3.2.0” version.

For the PolicyKit rules, you need to have v3.4 (or greater) of the “asl3” package. You have v3.6 so you’re good. But, there’s a known issue with at least one of asterisk-restart examples (see ASL3 issue #116)

Can you copy/paste your rpt.conf configuration in here? Also, can you confirm that your system has the file /usr/share/polkit-1/rules.d/50-asl3.rules?

I do have 50-asl3.rules, it is dated November 13th.

Comment out then non-900n ones.

Tried, still no-go. I gave asterisk (user) a shell login and when getting user asterisk to run rebook it errors having no authority. May I ask what the method was to allow reboot? For grins next week I’ll ressurect this all and probably try a fresh install of ASL on Debian 12. I had to get it off the bench already, had to modify a XPR4580 for trunk mount.
