Setting Audio Level

Is there a way to set the radio receive audio level to the internet other than by ear? Something like receiving a 1k Hz tone at 3 kc deviation to an internet VU meter.
I have two nodes. The oldest node has a Kenwood TMV7 connected to a DMK URI. The URI worked well with that radio until the radio failed. I changed the TMV7 out to a Yaesu 7900. The data output audio on the 7900 is much lower than the TMV7 and there is no audio adjustment on the URI. I have built an audio preamp to compensate for the lower audio. Other than just fiddling with a trial-and-error adjustment is there a definitive way to set the audio. Level properly?

One way is look directly at the outgoing IAX audio, I do that by running iaxRpt on a PC, then connect to your node from that and then use Audacity or another wave editor program to record iaxRpt’s output and you’ll see the PCM data sent by Asterisk, and you can then check peak levels, average power, frequency response, etc.

The ASL tune menu utility works pretty well too though is not as precise.

Radio-tune-menu is the way to go. Rx level displayed. Think of the 5kc point being 100%. Set service monitor to generate a 1kc tone and match the menu reading to the level out if the service monitor. Setting it by ear or any other means just doesn’t work well.

Where do I find radio tune menu?

Hi. Blind and partially deaf guy here.
Service monitors and visual aids are great if you can use them. I can’t, and I’ve managed to set all my nodes just fine by ear. It takes practice, but can certainly be done.
