RX Input Adjust Failed

I discovered app_rpt does not like ctcssfrom=no. Why? (I'm using DIAL).

What am I missing?

Thanks,
Bob

What could cause the Error: RX Input Adjust Failed?

DONE tries=12, setting=1000, meas=58, sqnoise=13
ERROR: RX INPUT ADJUST FAILED.

No RF input to the radio.

I'm attempting to setup a substitute receiver for testing, but am
experiencing difficulty setting it up, and not wanting to make a switch to
simpleusb, thus making the minimum number of changes.

The substitute receiver (Yaesu FT-1500M) is detecting CTCSS, with USB COR
out, and I'm using the speaker output. (see below conf file)

Any thoughts?

No change... whenever I have ctcssfrom=no, the PTT on the URIx is active,
and app_rpt won't take DTMF commands. When I switch back to
ctcssfrom=usbinvert, all works normally, however, that configuration does
not work with my substitute receiver.

What is the squelch logic coming out of your radio?

If the line changes, does it go low with signal or no signal? And when it goes low does it pull to ground?

The URI will not see a signal change if only voltage is supplied by the radio. The radio MUST pull the signal to ground on receive or when squelched.

If the radio doesn't pull to ground then you may need to connect an NPN transistor to pull the line to ground. Then set USB radio for usbinvert.

Thanks! Part of the problem was my lack of understanding.

OK... have everything working, but having difficulty understanding the tune
function.

radio tune rxnoise
tune rxnoise maxtries=12, target=23000, tolerance=2750

radio tune rxvoice
target=7200 tolerance=360

I'm passing the rxvoice, but failing the rxnoise. The radio seems to have a
lot of noise, however the measured is a small fraction of the modulated
signal. But the target for the rxnoise is 3 times the level of the
rxvoice... I expected the rxnoise to be much lower than the rxvoice levels,
comparable to what I'm measuring. IaxRpt is "measuring" a lot of noise (gree
bar is showing strong. What am I missing here with respect to these
measurement in the tune? What are the units? Gain? Where rxnoise would
require much more gain (target?) than the rxvoice to achieve some level?

Bob,

rxnoise is set using unsquelched, raw discriminator noise; this level
should always be much higher than an audio test signal.

Perhaps you're using a full-quieting received signal for the rxnoise
source?

If the line changes, does it go low with signal or no signal? And when
it goes low does it pull to ground?

The URI will not see a signal change if only voltage is supplied by the
radio. The radio MUST pull the signal to ground on receive or when
squelched.

If the radio doesn't pull to ground then you may need to connect an NPN
transistor to pull the line to ground. Then set USB radio for usbinvert.

Measuring the RX noise is done if you intend to use the computer to do the carrier squelch using the dsp mode with raw un squelched discriminator audio. It is measured with no signal into the receiver.

Since you have your radio connected with speaker audio there is a hi frequency roll off. The dsp function needs the hi freq. audio (> 3khz) to do the squelch function. With the roll off there is not enough hi freq. to do that.

Anyway, you have chosen to let the radio do the squelch so you do not need to do the RXnoise measurement.
You only need to inject a full quieting signal with 3K tone to the receiver and do a RXvoice measurement to set the RX level.

If you wanted to use the DSP mode to do squelch then you would connect the discriminator to the URI/FOB, set rxdemod =flat, and ctcssfrom=dsp.

Then you would do a rxnoise measurement with no signal. That gives the computer a baseline noise level for the squelch.
Then you would put a full quieting signal with a 1K tone and do a rxvoice measurement. That give the computer a full quieting signal to set the RX level and to compare the noise level with.

Then you would set the dsp squelch with a RXsquelch setting.
