I have replaced a repeater controller with a RTCM and a server.
All is well but for a heavy squelch tail after carrier drop. I am using the unit in simple mode because I do not have an active discriminator output because I am using the RTCM behind a Doug Hall voter.
I have Googled the subject to death and I see plenty of mentioned items regarding simpleusb and usb settings but nothing on voter configuration. Am I missing something someplace?
Simpleusb has nothing to do with RTCMs. You should not have a simpleusb.conf on your system if your only interface is a RTCM.
When you have set the RTCM COR type = 1 the squelch tail comes from your radio, or rather the Doug Hall voter in your case. As far as I know there is no STE setting anywhere in app_rpt or any of it’s channel drivers including chan_voter.
Have you considered connecting RTCMs to your receivers and let them vote in place of the Doug Hall?

app_rpt can't do STE on receive since that is a transmitter function. But,
chan_usbradio does provide a means to chop off the squelch tail using an
audio delay. This is exactly how it's done on most stand-alone
analog controllers these days.
See the parameter: rxsquelchdelay in the usbradio.conf file.
I can confirm this does work, I use it on several Kenwood repeaters.
Note that you must use flat audio (rxdemod=flat) for rxsquelchdelay to
work, since the "flat" setting turns on most of the DSP code. Setting
rxsquelchdelay=150 will solve most squelch crash issues, in my
experience.
