Tried it, backed it up to allstarlink, tried restoring on a new node.
I am using the correct nodenumber and password.
And it is connected to the internet and working.
I also saved a local backup but have not figured out what directory it needs to be in for the restore utility to see it.
That less than informative message tells us that the node#/password combination was not correct (and this would be the node#/password you’d find on the www.allstarlink.org portal).
The local backups created/used by asl-menu
(asl-backup-menu
) are stored in /var/asl-backups
.
Also, if you saved the backup archive with one node# then I hope you were using the same node#/password for the restore.
I positively used the correct node number and password as seen in the portal and is being used to register the node (works).
Backing up (using the same node + password worked and tested just a few minutes beforehand.
The restore attempt was 10-minutes later.
Restore from a local file worked fine.
I’ll have to do some more testing of the restore from backup server paths.
Good to know that the restore from a local file worked.
I’ll try it again later on…
Something may have just been down when I was trying it.
If you’re not getting any other reports etc… Probably something I did wrong.
But it’s pretty simple, not sure what may have been wrong here.
Backup worked- restore gave the error. Same node & creds.
What does the backup include and not include?
I noticed it did not restore simpleusb.conf to what I had.
Thanks.
The ASL3 “backup” has always included the entire /etc/asterisk
directory.
Even better, if you have a been keeping your ASL3 system up to date (with asl3-menu 1.9.1 or later installed) you have the ability to add additional content to the backup. This is accomplished by using the “Backup/Restore Menu”’ selection to “View/Edit files to backup”.
This evening I started off with a Raspberry Pi 5 with a clean/fresh install of ASL3 and took the following steps :
- ssh’d in to the device
- exec’d
sudo asl-menu
- selected the “Backup and Restore Menu”
- selected “Restore node from "backup.allstarlink.org" backups”
- entered the node # from another device (node) that I had created and saved a backup archive
- entered the password for that node
- selected the most recent archive from those available on the server, tabbed to “Restore”, and pressed the Enter key
… and the restore just worked
