Request for a procedure for manual ASL3 installation

When manually installing ASL3, I encountered several problems. It would be interesting if possible to document a manual ASL3 installation procedure, including the recommended operating system and version, add-ons, etc.

There are currently three parts to the manual installation, in my opinion.

  1. Server Installation

  2. Installation of add-ons such as Supermon, Allmon, etc.

  3. Installation of the WEB desktop, cockpit

If anyone is interested, they will surely be welcomed by the community.

Greetings, friends & 73

Did you follow Installation - AllStarLink Manual ?

Yes, I know the ASL3 installation link. One of the problems I've encountered is when installing many add-ons manually. I've also had problems installing the cockpit manually. For example, the Firewall section doesn't appear.

It does say that its designed with the PI OS in mind and my not work installing it manually. Pretty sure the cockpit firewall comes with CLI commands to use

Have you installed the Debian packages? They are part of the distribution.

The general workflow is install packages, run asl-menu, and bring up the node. Cockpit is not needed for any of this.

I would ask that you specify your problems. Some of it may be good updates to the manual. The manual is intended to outline how to install the two main supported paths for an AllStarLink system. ASL is not going to maintain documentation for non-ASL software such as Supermon and “etc”. We’re also not going to duplicate already-excellent documentation that exists for things such as installing Debian or using Cockpit. Perhaps we need to offer some recommended links but that would be all. There’s been discussions around some sort of scripted installer for a Debian non-Pi system but I haven’t heard enough demand for that to prioritize the undertaking.
