Registration Refused messages

I’m in the process of setting up my first node, and I’m getting a constant stream of ‘Registration Refused’ messages in the console. The node does appear to be registered, and can connect to other nodes. A search of the mailing list archives turned up a report of this happening last year, but I couldn’t find a fix.

Sample (time is CDT / UTC-5):

[Mar 12 11:10:53] NOTICE[2840]: chan_iax2.c:9712 socket_process: Registration of '47943' rejected: 'Registration Refused' from: '44.98.254.145'

Thanks,

Try a different node.
48234 is open with nothing connected for you to test.
If the node you are trying to connect to does not have a updated nodes list of valid nodes, it's not going to allow the connection.

I can connect to other nodes just fine. My node is registered, and shows up on the AllStarLink site, and in bubble maps. Regardless of whether I’m connected to anything or not, I still get the constant “Registration Refused” messages.

Then as I stated, the node you are failing to connect to, either does not have a updated nodeslist or it has NOICE (no incoming connects) set or you are not in his whitelist/in his blacklist.

If you know the node in question, have them check the timestamp of file
/var/lib/asterisk/rpt_extnodes

check if it has been getting updates. Should be timestamped today within half a hour.

I guess I should have asked if the node in question is your node and behind the same NAT on your IP ?
Either way , explain some more.

Again, I’m not failing to connect to any nodes. As soon as asterisk starts, and as long as it is running, I get the registration rejected message once every minute.

In case it wasn’t clear in my first message, 47943 is my node and 44.98.254.145 is register-tpa.allstarlink.org.

The message indicates that my node was unable to register with the AllStarLink server. However, the various online status pages all show that it is in fact registered, and the node appears to function properly … other than the constant error messages.

That was it — thanks!

This seems like a pretty big security hole, though. I successfully connected to multiple nodes even though my password was wrong.

-Brad / KR4DIO

You shouldn't be able to connect to any nodes if your not registered. I did
pull the logs and at no time was your node registered, nor in the rpt_extnodes
list. Unless you had the nodes configured manually, you're not going to be
able to connect to them.

I was able to connect to multiple nodes while receiving the “registration refused” message. I changed my password to something incorrect, and connected just now. Brad, I opened a ticket (and copied you) so we can look into this in RT. I'm
thinking it may be a time between changing the password and when all the other
nodes refresh their list.

Thanks,
