Is there a node I can connect to and receive a reference level test tone? I’d like to set the input level on my repeater controller. I’m used to generating a standard input signal ( 1 kHz tone at 3kHz dev) into a receiver to set levels. Thanks.
You can just do that with your own node using cop 4. That toggles a 1K reference tone.
From Asterisk CLI:
rpt cmd $NODE cop 4
Replace $Node with your own node number.
You can also define a function for this in the functions stanza of your node, then toggle it with DTMF. I wouldn't personally do it that way, though, since theoretically anyone could trigger it. This will send a continuous 1 kHZ tone until it is turned off, or the node restarts.

If there are any other nodes connected to you, they will get that continuous tone as well. It isn't local only.On Sep 20, 2026, at 03:31, Dave Novotny [email protected] wrote:

Node 55553: A popular community parrot node that evaluates your audio level (telling you if it is low, high, or good) in addition to echoing back your audio.
Kind of fun listening to that parrot node. It's not like the local ones on Pi-Star and WPTSD where you only can hear yourself. Rather you hear everyone and his uncle doing their audio checks...
It would technically be better if the parrot was not a bridge, where everyone got their own private stream, but it would be a whole lot less fun. That's why I haven't done it that way. I probably will eventually, though.
Parrot nodes are not supposed to be fun, though, are they?

That node measures average level, so a constant sine wave will always peak high. So, don't use it necessarily to calibrate against a reference tone.

When setting my repeaters I use radio-tune-menu or the simpleusb version and a service monitor to generate a given tone level for receiving and for transmitting adjust mod level in the software and when save it will make a tone transmission and you measure the deviation on the service monitor and keep adjusting till it is right
My vote is to keep it the same![]()
