I found some conflicting information, so I thought it was best to ask real quick. If I wanted to connect from node A at my house to node B at someone else’s house, that someone else will need to setup port forwarding on his router for udp/4569 correct? I thought I read that there was magic behind the scenes that made it so that wasn’t necessary, but, wanted to be sure before I go down that route.
Thanks
Port forwarding needs to be used when you have any form of address translation.
i.e. from the internet to your private intranet.
When a inbound hits the router, the forwarding destination tells it where to go.
Think of it as a routing table.
If the server is connected directly to the internet (wan) like in cloud based systems, there is no forwarding Because there is no address translation.
Yes port 4569 needs to be forwarded in order to allow you into his system for a net connection. saem as on your end if he wanted to connect to you.
