Proxy questions, yet again

I have to admit that I’m probably being thick headed here…but, I’ve read through the proxy page in the wiki, and things are still not as clear (to me anyway…) as to the configuration and such. I have a couple questions (well, maybe more than a couple, but I’ll try and keep the noise down) that are nudging me…but first:

Desired end state:

  1. I have a number of SHARI nodes (they work great, by the by) in various locations that are only used via hotspots (either on a smartphone or a stand-alone) or in mobiles in areas where there is sparse allstar coverage (but good cell data access…think I95 in CT…).
  2. These would be issued to licensed OMs on an as-needed basis for test ES nets and the like.
  3. Occasionally, the proxy would connect to an ASL/DMR/YSF bridge to extend the modes joining the net.

OK. so, my question(s) come down to:

  1. Would it be better to stand up a small instance of ASL in the cloud (linode small nodes are only $5. a month for a totally usable node for ASL with a fixed IP address…it’s where I have a dvswitch running right now and it’s fine) and do the mods to iax, extensions, etc. there?

  2. Can the proxy configuration be made in a running ASL instance without buggering the running configuration, or are the proxy configuation stanzas in conflict with the existing code?

Either way…the former is probably less dangerous to a running instance…so I answered my own question…

As I understand it:

  1. The proxy server handles the registration for the nodes who will be connecting to it. This means that
  • the server iax.conf contains the register => line for each proxied client
  • a node number stanza needs be added for each client in iax.conf.
  • a [radio-in] stanza needs be added to extensions.conf
  • a [radio-secure] stanza needs be added to extensions.conf
  • a change to the [allstar-sys] stanza as indicated in extensions.conf
  • a [proxy] stanza pointing to the IP address of the server in rpt.conf.
  1. The nodes (SHARI on hotspots) authenticate to the server with a shared secret.
  • [radio-out] and [radio-out-proxy[ stanzas added to client iax.conf
  • addition to the [nodes] in rpt.conf as stated
  • [radio-secure-proxy] stanza added in extensions.conf
  • exten => added in [radio-secure-proxy] for the SHARI node number

What am I missing? Or where am I wrong? flames to /dev/null…
