Problem with wifi/ethernet connection

Hi all. I am building a Pi 3b+/BF888 node. The hardware side is no issue. I do that sort of work a lot. But I have fallen at the first jump with the software side.
Please be kind. I am a complete beginner at this who likes to learn by doing. Help me do.
I have followed the instructions on the allstar website. I've put the image on the TF card and edited the OS for my wifi. But when I plug in the pi flashes its green light for hours but doesnt connect. On wifi or ethernet cable.
The Pi and TF card are good as I have swapped them with others working another task.
What am I doing wrong?
cheers
Jack

Did you flash the SD card using Raspberry Pi Imager, and did you set the account, hostname, SSID + password, etc. using the default settings in the Imager app when you flashed the card?

What version of ASL are you trying to install?

For ASL3, did you follow : Raspberry Pi Install - AllStarLink Manual

I'm installing ASL3. I used raspberry pi imager. I followed the installation instructions to the letter up to stage 19/20. Pings fail and nothing reads on local page.

Hook your pi up to a monitor and see what it says.

I hooked it up to my TV (only HDMI I had). It flashes a rainbow coloured screen for 1 second, goes blank for 8 seconds, then repeats that cycle ad infinitum. I'm no expert (obviously) but that looks like a failure to boot.
Additional edit- I have watched some youtube videos of others installing asl3. I am doing the exact same thing they are. But it works for them.
Additional additional edit- Only thing different with the youtube guys is that I am using a Pi 3b+, and they have 4s. A Pi 3 should work shouldn't it?

The color bars are from firmware, so yes, you are stuck in a boot fail loop. Have you tried flashing a different image? Used a different SD card?

I've used a different Pi, also a 3b+. A different SD card. And reflashed it several times.
This Pi has 1.2G or ram. The website says 4G is preferred, but 512Mb will suffice.
A google about asl3 and Pi3 shows people having issues with it freezing etc. Maybe a 3 wont cut it.

I've got 5 3B+ here and haven't had any trouble flashing cards or initializing the machines with the ASL appliance. It should be a hint that substituting known good hardware isn't solving your issue. Perhaps you should try downloading the image again; you may simply be reflashing a corrupted image if it won't boot.

In your first post you mentioned putting the image on a TF card. Are you really using a TF card? or are you using a microSD card?

and what size card are you using (8GB, 16GB, 32GB)?

TF and micro SD are the same thing. TF is an older marketing name. Either way, they are 32Gb.
And.... its working. I tried different Pis, different cards, downloaded the image file several times. It refused to work. Then one time, it did. I don't know why.
I'm pleased it worked. But a little confused.
Thanks for taking the time to reply folks. Much appreciated.

There is too much information on the internet ... like TF Cards vs MicroSD Cards: What is the Difference?

Great!
