Playing Welcome Message Upon New Connection

Hello,

I have recently set up an AllStar node using ASL3 with EchoLink connection. I was wondering if there is a way to add a welcome message to the system such that whenever a new station connects, the message is played for that station. I have seen this happen on a couple of EchoLink nodes, for example CARLA, K6LNK. Any guidance or hint would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Great idea, even for just connecting to the node.

My Hamshack Hotline, Amateur Wire and Hams over IP all have a welcome message, I don’t know why Echolink or any other attached one can’t have it.

I just realized the welcome messages were in the extensions.conf, but on HamVoip. Not sure how here on ASL3 they are configured. Next thing to learn for me too

A welcome message is somewhat common on echolink. My echolink conference does it, but that’s hosted by Thebridge (TBD), not chan_echolink.
It is technically possible to do this on IAX/Allstarlink connections as well, but this is not generally well-received, as I found out when I did it on one of my nodes once a couple of years ago. This involves using Asterisk’s early media to play a message without answering the channel.
However, I don’t know if this is possible with echolink connections hosted by chan_echolink.

Node telemetry is played to all connections. There is no stock way to ‘welcome’ a node on its own.
