planning on switching MaBell phone line to voip. send the line to an asterisk server at home. and make an automated assitant that would ask to press one for me 2 for my wife and 3 for the daughter, then based on the choice it would transfert the call to any of our 3 cell phone…
anyone can comment? is that a good concept or something else could be better?
thanks for the feed back

by the way the internet will be 60 mb cable… Bell wont be in the loop at all.
I did this with an asterisk system a long time ago - different IAX trunk vendor - but the concept is totally sound. In those days I could even send my own caller ID to the provider - had great fun with co-workers calling from the NSA, CIA, IRS and Whitehouse as a gag

I haven't used them. I use teliax.com and have had my account with them
for quite a long time. They have several different servers that you can
configure to use (based on lag, etc) and offer both SIP and IAX2. They
offer a pay as you go system so you can "reload" you account and pay for
the usage. There are some other minor reoccuring fees, but they aren't
that much (line maintenance, etc).

I use voip.ms and vitelity with voip.ms being the cheaper of the
two. Most of my DIDs are on voip.ms. have one left on vitelity and
also did used for the fax solution.
voip.ms has more pops around the world. both been reliable. they use
the same upstream carrier looks like from them having access to same
rate centers.

I use VOIP.MS for my business and home. They have been very reliable and they are the only provider that provides (808) area codes that I have found. There may be others but I have been a customer of theirs for over 5 years and I haven’t looked back. Their services continue to mature significantly and always add a lot of great services. I currently use Asterisk 11.7 on an Elastix platform for my Unified messaging solution and it works well with VOIP.MS.
