Noise reduction on receive audio from Allstar

Folks,

I notice that when hams are noisy into their Allstar node or the repeater connected to the Allstar node, the noise on their signal seems to be higher pitch and accentuated. Some folks are always noisy and therefore difficult to copy. Does anyone else have this problem, and has anyone reduced the noise with either software running on the server or some hardware inserted in between the audio from the URI or CM108 dongle to the transmitter? I was thinking a DSP audio filter (more expensive than my whole node).

73,

Eric 4Z5UG

Is it possible you are getting discriminator audio from your radio, but telling asterisk that it is “flat” audio?

That would make everything high pitched and noisy

If I’m not mistaken, I think he’s
speaking about RF users with weak signals into the node itself. I hear it all
the time, since its digitally processed it sounds less like static and sort of
funky though most times I think it’s more pleasant to listen to than pure
static.

I know I’ve seen this before but I can’t locate

client is “best” with app_rpt and can anyone advise on the setup
required on the allstar server? Again, I apologize but I can’t seem

Not at all. Noise from an Allstar node sounds completely normal. I suspect, as the other poster stated, the URI is connected to discriminator audio and you’re not doing deemphasis.

This might be caused by where you’re
injecting your audio into the TX radio. Whats the model/make of the TX radio
you’re using?

Ok,

I’ve found the post (copied below) I was looking for but I’m still messing with this and I don’t seem to be making any progress. I may have something amiss in either sip.conf or extensions.conf? Is there a good tutorial for asterisk/centos challenged users like myself?

in your Asterisk Dialplan, you need to invoke Rpt like this:

exten => Something,1,rpt,1234|P (for Phone with function controlled PTT)

-or-

exten => Something,1,rpt,1234|Pv (for Voice-controlled PTT)

(examples given for node number 1234)

I have a Santec FM-240 VHF transceiver. Also known as a Kentec. I am injecting the audio from the URI into the microphone input. I tried injecting into the PL board input with poor results.

OK – well - you could have an analogous situation there, where you have selected pre-emphasized transmit audio and your rig only needs flat, “microphone’ audio.

For some reason, I had to make the stanza box contain my user name though.

So multiple transmitters have the bad audio or just one? Your first post implied you had bad audio from the one receiver.

If you want to connect to our hub (node 2530) I’d be happy to give you a signal report.

Problem solved.

Ken was right. Thanks Ken. Changing the configuration on the usbradio.conf to flat audio, and not pre-emphasized audio solved the problem and made listening on Allstar much more comfortable. Thanks to all who answered me.

Now - has anybody actually deployed a node with the Dingotel USB Fob? I picked up two units some time back and want to experiment with them.
