New User - Stuck at Zero Receive Level

Greetings all,

New user here… here’s my setup - Kenwood TM-V71A - URIxB - RPi3.

I can get my radio to key up and play the tones using the simplusb.conf file menu, but i’m not showing any receive audio on the RX adjust.

I’ve made sure to comment in the ‘load simplusb.conf’, radio is set to 1200bps & on VFO A. Just stuck at this point.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Johnny,

Check your simpleusb.conf and make sure of the following settings.

Carrierfrom=usb

Ctcssfrom=**no **

Johnny,

Only mentioning this as I had a friend (new to the whole VOIP
concept)when he first attempted to build an Allstar node. He mistakenly
assumed the tune menu generated a RX signal with which to set levels.
When told that he needed an incoming signal from his radio receiver or
some other signal source it was a DUH! moment. Plus it turned out he was
running CTCSS on his receiver which without tone input his RX audio out
was muted.

Not familiar with your radio but do you by any chance have CTCSS turned
on on your receiver?

Johnny I also forgot to mention since I didn’t see it posted in replies
to you. Don’t forget to restart Asterisk for any edits you make to take
effect. From the terminal command line —> astres.sh

Not treating you like a dummy but you said you were NEW and everyone
forgets at some point while learning.

Good day, everyone!

I am new to AllStar and have the exact same setup as the original poster. I have Kenwood TM-V71A connected to a raspberry pi with a URIxB. I have no receive audio. The radio transmits a test tone without problem, but does not seem to be receiving audio. I have changed the settings as above:

Carrierfrom= usb
Ctcssfrom= no

No affect after reboot. I created my cable using this guide: https://forums.qrz.com/index.php?attachments/din-to-db25-jpg.478998/ found on this forum post: https://forums.qrz.com/index.php?threads/kenwood-tm-v71a-to-uri-pinout-for-allstar-node.623316/

Any help would be appreciated.

I found the problem. The diagrams in my last post have the audio from the radio going to pin 24 of the URI, which is fine if you are using a 12V input to the URI to power the amplifier, but in my case, I was not. Pin 4 should go to pin 21 on the URI. Audio levels adjusted and everything works as expected.

Marshall, apologize for not following up sooner, I have been busy! Those settings changes worked. My RX audio is still a bit low even set to 950, but that might be the crappy HT i’m using with zero settings for mic gain :confused:
