Hi,
Well I have installed ASL3 on a Rpi4B and all is running fine, I also have an old SHARI vhf module, you know, the one with 2 x USB leads connected to the system and running perfectly as well.
What the issue then? The issue is that I am trying to upgrade the system using a UR101 module and a Quansheng UV-5 HT radio instead of the SHARI module, RF output being one reason for doing this,5W on the Quenshang against 300mW on the Shari.
I seem to be unable to get the UR101 and quangshaeng to talk to the Rpi via the USB ports no matter what I try. I am no Linux expert, but can get through, and have tried all the options suggested in the ASL3 manual for setting up and also the configuration info given for the UR101 on there web site, all with no success.
It’s not clear how you have things configured, you mention “unable to get the URI and HT to talk to the RPi via the USB ports”, however, you should not be using more than one USB port, or connecting the HT directly to the RPi.
If you had a SHARI connecting with 2 USB ports, that will have a specific ASL configuration, and plugging in a standard URI and HT to the same USB ports will not work.
I would suggest the following, in the following order:
Plug the URI into one of the RPi USB ports. Connect the 2.5mm and 3.5mm cables between the URI and HT.
Put a new ASL3 image on the RPi SDCard.
Run asl-menu to set up your node number details, use SimpleUSB interface, duplex=1.
Voila, you should now have a working node. If not it might be helpful if you post a pic or video showing exactly how you have all the cables connected, and what the status lights are doing on the URI. Also feel free to email me at david at allscan.info. I only check this forum a few times a week but get emails right away.
Thanks very much for the help, I have now resolved the issue, changing the HT to a different one along your guidance has got the node working just fine.
Thanks again
