New node - cant connect to it or control it

Setup Information

Asterisk Version: 22..7.0+asl3-3.7.1-1.deb13
ASL3 Version: 3.7.1

Older Macbook Air on WiFi with debian 13 and fresh install of ASL3 still waiting on SA818 to arrive so no RF yet but trying to get the node working.

Inquiry

The node registers on the portal. I am able to log into cockpit and allmon3. If I try to make a change in Allmon3 it says “Command Error” and if I try to connect with my RepeaterPhone app it fails.

Can someone try to log into my node 63694 and let me know if it works?

Any other insight would be appreciated.

I have been through the whole troubleshooting guide to confirm user and pass match in allmon3.ini and manager.conf as well as the node number and port settings in iax.conf (bindport=4569) extensions.conf. I double checked 4569 UDP is port forwarded in my router to the correct IP.

allmon3.ini

[63694]
host = 127.0.0.1 # (R) DNS name or IP address of the Asterisk/ASL node
;
; port = 5038 # (O) port of the Asterisk manager
;
user = admin # (R) username of the Asterisk monitor, most
pass = secret

manager.conf

enabled = yes
port = 5038
bindaddr = 127.0.0.1 ; Comment when not localhost access

[admin]
secret = secret
read = all,system,call,log,verbose,command,agent,user,config
write = all,system,call,log,verbose,command,agent,user,config

I have tried looking at logs in cockpit but i’m already a tad bit over my head here …

no joy when trying to connect to 63694

there is Administrative Access elevation you should do for Cockpit, and you must also use the Login button for allmon3

also not seeing 63694 in Searchable Node List

I have Administrative Access on for Cockpit and I am able to use the login button to login to allmon3 but still can’t use it to control the node. I can see it in the node list.

wasn't there before. is there in Searchable Node List now. still no joy when i attempt to connect.

please open Terminal and run sudo asl-node-auth-check and it will provide clues for further checking

i did

$ sudo asl-node-lookup 63694

SRV (_iax._udp.63694.nodes.allstarlink.org)
  10 10 4569 63694.nodes.allstarlink.org.

A (63694.nodes.allstarlink.org)
  75.156.122.62

TXT (63694.nodes.allstarlink.org)
  NN=63694

RPT LOOKUP (63694)
  radio@75.156.122.62:4569/63694,75.156.122.62

and that at least shows the system is contacting the central ASL Network correctly

i hear "Connection failed" emitted by my node when i try to connect to 63694

Could my ISP be blocking it. I did confirm it’s set up correctly in the router admin interface.

as it is right now, you can connect to nodes like 55553 (Parrot+), right?
it's just no node can connect to your 63694.

Can you tell us a bit more about your network configuration? Who is your ISP? Are you using your own modem/router? or one provided by the ISP? or your own router plugged into the ISP's modem/router?

I can’t connect to any nodes or parrot+ i just get an error from allmon3 “Command Error”

ISP is Telus. I am using their modem and router. I am able to login to the admin portal of the router and change things as needed.

Does the modem/router show the WAN IP as 75.156.122.62 ?

... and the IP address of your node is 192.168.1.137 ?

Yes WAN IP shows 75.156.122.62 and node is 192.168.1.137

Earlier, you mentioned that you were using a Macbook with Debian 13.

Q? did you install the asl3-appliance-pc package?

Q? do you have a firewall configured/enabled? and, if so, do you have a firewall rule that allows the IAX2 firewall traffic to pass?

sudo firewall-cmd --state
sudo firewall-cmd --get-active-zones
sudo firewall-cmd --list-all

Since this is a 3.7 host, please run asl-check-install and confirm your settings in asl-menu. Usually that original error is saying that particular node is undefined when you tried to run the command. Does the command work if you select show uptime?

I did install with asl3-appliance-pc

This is what i got. Seems that it does have a firewall and active zones are allstarlink

gf@aslnode:~$ sudo firewall-cmd --state
[sudo] password for gf:
running
gf@aslnode:~$ sudo firewall-cmd --get-active-zones
allstarlink (default)
gf@aslnode:~$ sudo firewall-cmd -list-all
usage: 'firewall-cmd --help' for usage information or see firewall-cmd(1) man page
firewall-cmd: error: unrecognized arguments: -list-all

There are some errors but not sure what they mean…

asl-menu seems ok - i can’t seem to figure out how to change the duplex type but not sure that matters?

The repeater is not starting because you don’t have a USB device connected. If you’re trying to build a hub without a USB device thing, you need to use the pseudo channel.

Thank you - I changed it to “no radio interface” it still shows duplex type 2 and wont let me change it. I even tried deleting the node and adding it again. I then restarted asterisk and rebooted the server. Still no beans :sob:

I have realized that whatismyip and my router wan show different up addresses which makes me wonder if it could be a cgnat problem …. :thinking:
