Any comment on this new law. In California, Colorado, and Brazil
The node images contain a OS under this law and will require age verification at install.
Distribution of images with no age verification wont be legal in those areas. More likely soon.
Looks to me like the only safe way right now is to install by script and let the user install his own OS moving this legal requirement to someone else Debian or the Raspberry Pi installer.
This would apply to Pistar and WPSD images also. As well as thousands of other systems used on PI. Its a nightmare. But its better to plan for this. More stupid poorly written laws that protect no one.
Note: This is not official legal advice or the official position of AllStarLink
Whatever the Debian project would implement for Debian is what anyone else would consume. I've only looked at CA's law and it's doubtful that AllStarLink falls under the definition of an "Operating system provider" as we do not develop, license, or control operating system software. ASL just consumes the OS. Any OS requirement to provide the requested age bracket information would be available to the users of the system to choose (or not to) comply. We're also not a "Developer" that needs a "Signal" for a "convered application store".
I foresee very little, if anything, changing for ASL.
