New build by New builder

Start a new build in a Pi4b this week. As a brand new guy to this, should I stay away from ASL3? What I read about bugs is a little scary. Afraid I won’t be able to know if it’s a software bug or my error.

Thanks,
kg5ie

There are no major/important bugs in ASL3 that would cause standard configurations to fail or be unusable. The only major open issue at the moment is some audio choppiness on Echolink under certain conditions and a fix is being tested now. There's over 7000 nodes registered with ASL3.

Please note that most of what you read on the forums is people who true testers and finding bugs, are having problems due to novel situations, or aren't reading the documentation.

I had no knowledge of asterisk or asl3 when I put my first node together. I had it running within 24 hrs. Hint: use the Pi appliance image and asl-menu for setup. All software that's being actively developed tends to have bugs. In asl3, at least, they get fixed. Being open source, you get to see all the warts, as well as the pretty bits.

NO! I have been making the "other" nodes for years! And I am really used to it. However, if you start with ASL3, you will better off... the support here is VERY good! Write any password down and where you put it.... For me, an "OM," these passwords were problematic!!! NH6FU

Does anyone sell a RIM hat for the pi4b? Or should I look at another interface solution?

I don't know of any hats other than hotspots like the SHARI PiHat. Most RIMs/URIs use USB. Here are a few from CM108 Mods, Im rubbish at soldering - #2 by WA6ZFT

Why does it need to be a HAT ?
Plenty of RIM's on the market.
Or are you looking for a radio HAT with RIM ? If so the only ones I know of are for digital mode i.e.DMR,YSF /MMDVM, etc. Not analog.
