Need Help: Trouble setting up TYT9000 with ASL3

Greetings fellow radio users!

I am attempting to set up ASL3 with two TYT 9000 radios as a repeater for a tower location. This repeater will NOT be internet connected, and for now, it will be an analog repeater with no other functions. Here is the current hardware I’m using to hope to accomplish this:

Two TYT 9000 UHF 60Watt radios

Repeater Builder RIM Lite USB soundcard

Radio-Dan ZR6 to DB9 adapters are installed into the radio.

I’ve made a custom Y cable to go between the Rim Lite and the two TYTs. I’ve had Scott Zimmerman from Repeater Builder bless the pin outs, so I think my physical connectivity is ok. Additionally I have tested the homemade cable with a volt meter to ensure proper connectivity to each pin.

Here is the specific entries from my simpleusb.conf file for the node I’ve created:. This is all based upon various things (often conflicting) I’ve read on the internet.

It’s worth noting I can hear audio from both the transmit and receive if I turn the radio volume up when I’m transmitting from a test HT, but the radio transmit light never comes on the tyt9000 tx radio, and I don’t hear anything. If anyone can help me get past this issue, it’d be GREATLY appreciated. Additionally, the repeater never ID’s itself, even when I set the ID timer to 60 seconds.

You probably never see the TX radio’s ptt led light up because the uri most likely needs to be configured to ‘active low’ to key up that transmitter externally. meaning that the external ptt signal from the uri to the TX radio never goes to gnd…or ‘active low’.

Run: sudo simpleusb-tune-menu

There is a usbinvert setting that you can toggle. Once you toggle it make sure that you save the changes.

  • Running sudo simpleusb-tune -menu will write the necessary stuff in /etc/asterisk/simpleusb.conf
  • Iders, timers, macros are configured in /etc/asterisk/rpt.conf
