Link audio level

I'm trying to lower the audio level from the link to my RF repeater and I'm not seeing the linkmongain setting making a lick of difference.

I have tried -6, -10, -20 and now have...

linkmongain=-999

...in the node section below Audio level settings and above Dial Plan settings but there is no change. I wold expect this value to mute it completely on my transmitter audio.

HamVoIP is not Allstar, and they do not make their source available. This is
illegal and and an attack on our community values. It's rather sad, I'm sure
Jim would be spinning in his grave over this.

The people behind HamVoIP are actively involved in copyright infringement and
are stealing from the community. They have made many changes that break
things (channel drivers, etc) in non-standard ways. As it's closed source
they could be embedding anything (bitcoin miners, bots, etc.) and you'd never
be the wiser.

Allstar is based on sharing and writing code that benefits all of the
community, and when a group violates that it's an affront to the entire user base.

Install the Allstar code, either from source or via apt-get and give it a try.

I recently had a discussion with David Cameron about a simulcast and voting project. While talking to him, I asked if he had reconsidered his decision to disallow IRLP support in app_rpt. In no uncertain terms has he changed his mind. He doesn't want that code in Asterisk/app_rpt - - period.

HamVoip includes code that goes against the creator of IRLP, but it doesn't seem to matter what other people think/want. They are doing their own thing - for better or worse.

While the "official" distribution of AllStar/Asterisk/app_rpt has not kept up with the times - times have changed.

Not a battle we should be worried about, I’m thinking.

If David for IRLP or Digium (who I believe holds the copyright on Asterisk; open source does not mean it’s public domain, just that you’re obliged to follow a specific set of license requirements in the GPL from the Open Software Foundation) don’t want to enforce their rights (or may not even know that their rights are being infringed), then there is really nothing we can do about it, other than to take the high road and be sure OUR house is in order.

IOW, it’s up to the OSF, Dave Cameron, and the legal owner of the Asterisk copyright to enforce, if they even know.

Tim WD6AWP

Hi Danny,

I tested the linkmongain setting and it does work as it was designed to.
That command is named poorly, calling it linkmonduck would be a better
name.

linkmongain ONLY works for links in monitor mode, meaning that the
connection was made using *2 (or *72 for permanent connections)...It does
NOT work when *3 (or *73 for permanent connections) is the connection
mode.

Also note that linkmongain only changes the level of the monitored links
when other normal local or link audio is also present. So, this acts
similarly to telemetry ducking, where the telemetry level is changed by
the telemduckgain parameter---when local (or other link audio) audio is
present, only then does the linkmongain setting have any impact.

There is no parameter (that I know of?) to independently adjust the audio
level for incoming AllStar links. This is different from echolink (erxgain
parameter), IRLP (irxgain parameter) and TLB (The link box) (trxgain
parameter), where they can have their network audio levels changed....It
is normally considered that AllStar links will all have their levels
"normalized," so an independent setting for AllStar link gain levels
should be unneeded.

Does this make sense?

If there is a need, for an AllStar link gain setting, I add this to the
feature request list??

I have tried -6, -10, -20 and now have...

linkmongain=-999

...in the node section below Audio level settings and above Dial Plan settings but there is no change. I wold expect this value to mute it completely on my transmitter audio.

Thanks David, no need to go any further on this. Thanks for checking.

Subject: Re: [App_rpt-users] Link audio level

Hi Danny,

I don't think I've ever tried the linkmongain setting. But, I don't think
I've changed any of that code, either. I'll test and if it's broken, fix
it, today.
