I’ve read everything I can find on setting up this radio on ASL3, but I’m still stumped. There must be a setting in the Expert Configuration Menu that I need to address, but I don’t have a clue which one(s). With the current settings, I can set the received audio, but nothing else. Although echo mode is enabled, nothing is heard. I can ping Google and Allstar and can connect to other nodes.
EDITED TO ADD:
The V71 is not transmitting;
Although I can connect to other nodes and can ping Allstarlink.org, the node is not being reported to Allstarlink.org. I have set “Post node status” to yes.
I’d love to hear some suggestions from folks successfully using the V71A.
The issue has been resolved. The problem was a setting in the Kenwood TM-V71A, i.e. Menu 20. It was set to “off” meaning pin 6 would never go high when a signal was received. When Menu 20 is set to “SQL,” it works fine. This is true whether using a CTCSS or not.
While other radios will vary, the key here is that the SQL pin (pin 6 in standard configuration for a 6-pin mini-DIN) go high when a signal is received.
I hope this helps someone else. I would never have resolved this issue without help from Robert with Crossroads ARC in Texas. Thanks Robert!!
