Hello,
I want to add an Allstar node (HamVOIP) on a Yaesu DR-1X repeater.
I use a R1-2020 AVRTX BH7NOR USB-radio interface between Raspberry PI & DR-1X.
Everything works fine, but TX audio is very low, even with “999” TX & DSP values.
I tried to use both ACC & Control I/O ports on DR-1X, with same result.
Any Idea? Any modification that could be done on R1-2020 or DR-1X to increase TX audio gain ?
You don’t say how low it is. If it is only a little low, you might check that the repeater is set for “wide” deviation.
The DR-1 needs 1.5 volts peak-to-peak audio. You might check your interface to see how much audio it is making. 1.5 volts pk-pk is only a bit over 1/2-volt RMS and that is not much. Perhaps your connecting cable is not going to the right pins.
Hi Ken. In simple-USB tune menu, I set all TX levels to maximun and run the 1 KHz test tone. The maximun output I get out of the R1-2020 is 100 mV peak-to-peak. Much lower than 1.5 V p-p
On DR-1X I’m connected on 10-pin ACC port, TX audio on pin 1.
I get the same result on control I/O connector (pin 7).
When listening the transmitted test tone with a receiver tuned on repeater frequency, I can barely hear the tone with volume at maximum. I tried another R1-2020 unit, with same result.
It seems R1-2020 is made for a microphone level, which is not suitable for DR-1X ACC input.
dont have any experience with these interfaces
but maybe run alsamixer and make sure the settings are
appropriate, make sure F6 to select the proper device and F5 to show both record and play options.
after setting then run sudo alsactl store to make them stick
Alsamixer: Interesting tool ! Thank you for the info.
It fixed my problem: with alsamixer, DSP & TX A level at maximum, it provides the exact required TX audio level (on 15-pin Control I/O connector).
I don’t need to use front MIC jack anymore.
As suggested by a fellow ham, I use the front microphone connector (6-pin RJ-12) for TX audio, and it works very well !
It is much more sensitive than rear ACC or control inputs.
I built a cable that connects R1-2020 with Control (DB-15) & front Mic connectors.
I had to use front mic connector for PTT signal as well, because audio is not transmitted if audio is applied on this connector but PTT is applied on rear control connector.
