Hi everyone, I would like to know if it is possible to install the OPUS codec in allstarlink’s Asterisk
The only issue you may have is the older version of asterisk we use.
I have never done this, but it is a lead for ya.
What would be the gain from using that codec?
It does seem to have loss tolerance and variable bitrate.
But that variable bitrate is done on pair basis or for the whole group? What I ask is if a group of node is connected to a central node, and a small node with low bandwitch connection request a lower bitrate from the codec, would it put all the other connected node to go on a lower biitrate also? I know that if a node bets codec is let say GSM, this one wont affect the orher node that use ULAW. but we are not talking about a single coded that can do multiple bitrate.
Hi I’m trying to get an access door to SvxLink since at least here in Italy they are all directed towards that type of connection leaving the echolink connection with which Allstar has no problems as a network And I thought given the possibility of using the channel sip loading the Opus codec to try to connect it But unfortunately I did some tests and our Asterisk is too old and I can’t load the Opus codec module but I’m working on it. Certainly the opus codec is very interesting for its characteristics, I would not know how to answer you but surely if a single node uses that type of codec it cannot affect the entire connection network but it is interesting to try
Thanks Mike you are always valuable in your advice
If you manage to make that work,
please come back and post it here.
Thanks.
