experimental reflector irlp

Loren,

This is my last comment on this subject and I will let the forum get back to pertinent conversations…

It is not about being open, WE are, IRLP and Mr. Cameron is NOT. It has been this way for a number of years, and he will not change.

And alot of us do not see that changing anytime in the future. Hence alot of IRLP nodes moving over because of his restrictions. So in many minds, this is dead subject. And one of the reasons why the BYRG nodes (and we have been asked to link) are not in the Central Region Inter-tie. They are IRLP which is their choice, and that os good. But since we run allstar on our analog nodes, we cannto becuase of this rule.

So on to bigger and better things…Steve, I have the new rev up and running and will ship back to KC for the 220 system for Bob to install. Looks good.

Chuck it’s the fact that we should remain open about everything… As far as the irlp owners and wishes to me that should be their issue… irlp runs on asterisk natively and the last time I had a look their was an open source project with irlp… In my opinion it’s a do so at your own risk kinda conversation… But not pushing forward and keeping the documents clear as a hush hush type thing is not good either…

I understand the irlp mess but when it comes down to modifications and making the stuff work properly this by it self is worth publishing the material…

In my mind Irlp is a dead project anytime the owners of a project limit users it becomes a worthless solution… Basically a waist of time… Unfortunately we have boomers caught in the crossfire that don’t truly understand computers or how the technology works… Making life easier for these individuals is a great thing regardless of anyone elses thoughts and opinions… Like I said it’s a do so at your own risk type of project… Maybe one day the irlp guys will realize that they should have been more compatible with other VoIP solutions unfortunately I don’t think this will save his company… Hams are cheap we like to work on things with our hands and modify software to suite our needs…

Loren,

It is not censoring.

Years ago Mr. Cameron TOLD WB6NIL and the developers to remove IRLP. It is a dead issue. It was removed. Stirring the pot or whipping a dead horse is waste space. It is out, over said and done. Wanting to bring up a debate that has no place is fodder to most of us. Let it go.

Well there Mr. N6GKL here’s the low down on that one: . I have that exact config here and last year, after running it for just a week or two, complaints landed in Canada and Mr. K6DC sent me a nasty gram, informing me, the lowly unwashed, to see the light, walk the walk, and get back in line. If I failed to keep up from thirst or fatigue, or disobedience, then I would simply be shot in the head, and left for dead on the Great Trail through Canada to the frozen North. The complaints came from some self appointed Sheriffs, if you insist I would be happy to list the callsigns, but since you refer to David Cameron as “MR.” I suspect that you already know who the players are.

If you want to run dual technologies then run two servers. Link them back to back at the analog layer.

That is unfortunate.

According to the FCC rules, I can define what is acceptable and what is not. And kick off anyone who does not follow my rules.

I fail to see how that can apply to a computer network where the traffic is carried via many routes.

Easier to just avoid it all together.

Simple; you only have control over what directly connects to your AllStar node or comes into it via RF. Anything else is under another system operator’s control.

I know this is a very old thread but I thought I’d resurrect it as the official word from Dave Cameron is he has no problems with an IRLP/Allstar bridge on a reflector. In fact, I have an email from him clearly stating he’s never had a problem with that

I think you will find specific rules for it’s use with ASL. You should ask.

This is why I moved on to DMR where I can truly hand over all use of control to everyone else… I have given up on this topic personally… Maybe its my medical conditions that have caused me to kinda calm down a bit on this and other topics in the Amateur Radio realm… Life is too short… Try and follow the rules the best to your ability and take time out with those around you… Time is not Guaranteed. Sorry for any confusion or problems I have caused over the years with my emails/question/comments…
