DIAL and IRLP

Is it possible to bridge DIAL and IRLP like the old ACID distro?

David Cameron would have a litter of kittens if you do that. IRLP is OBSOLETE.
The best thing to do with a IRLP node is to yank the hard drive, format it and bring it back up as a Allstar node and rip the IRLP interface board out, remove the SSI-202 chip and toss the rest in the trash. It’s like getting a new engine for your old chevy.

I had at one point in time thought about using irlp Debian distribution and putting allstarlink on it to make an irlp allstar bridge but this created so much controversy… I thought I had been burned on the Repeater antenna for talking about such thoughts… I personally don’t understand why irlp wishes to feel this way…

So?

If some one wants to interlink with another network who are we to stop them?
This is no different than linking with echolink or dstar.

Who cares if the software supports it? Just because we have software that
supports IRLP as a channel in asterisk doesn't mean everyone is going to run
out and use it. It's like torrent clients; they are legal to code and use but
some use may be against the ToS of your ISP.

I think it would be funny if a hundred asterisk/Allstar users setup IRLP and
Cameron flipped his shit. What's he going to do, ban half his user base? If
anything it would speed up the demise of IRLP by showing people the audio
quality and openness of the Allstar community.

This is my Opinion on this…
IRLP is a cash cow for Cameron.Cameron doesnt want IRLP nodes to connect (he claims) because of his “Security” reasons. He claims he doesnt sell node numbers, but try to get one for a “roll your own” device. When you buy a interface from him you get the node number tossed in.Allstar is WAY better in so many ways.IRLP has gone the route of AM C-Quam Stereo…was cool in it’s day, but it’s over.

Been there done that…he will pout and throw a fit…then remove your PGP keys from his system…
Honestly…IRLP is not worth bothering with. Simply switch over the system you want to cross with. There is no advantage to running IRLP…zero. Yeah I know…there are hams in Hawaii running 2 meter radios from the '70’s that dont have PL and whine about that too.

Here is a analogy…IRLP is like wearing a condom…Allstar is like going bareback. You may quote me on this.

Kirk is correct. IRLP on AllStar is no longer supported. It can be
done, but it’s NOT supported. It’s their network, if they don’t want
our traffic, respect that.

But the thing is, it's not their network. It's all individual repeaters, and
the traffic is peer to peer, it's not transverseing IRLP servers.

If some one wants to restrict a given node from connecting to their node, I
don't take issue with that, but I'll be damned if some one else is going to
tell me who can connect to my node.

Yes Steve thats true, and we don’t have to rely on IRLP to link sites anymore.
We can have high performance, and agility or sit on the side of the road with a blown headgasket…we have a choice.
