So tonight I ordered a few AIOC devices from NA6D. I plan to use at least one to create a AllStar hotspot here at home, and potentially another one to keep in my camper. However, I have a couple of questions that I haven't been able to find out the answer to.
First off, why do the instructions keep saying to use the legacy 32bit Raspberry Pi OS to flash the device? Have the scripts just not been updated for bookworm? I have actually downloaded all the scripts from G1LRO's site and examined them, and honestly, I'm not seeing anything that shouldn't work with Bookworm, or even stock debian on x86_64. Is there something I'm missing?
Second, I note from looking at the scripts, they are flashing the AIOC 1.3.0-rc.1 firmware to the AIOC. I noticed that GitHub - skuep/AIOC: Ham Radio All-in-one-Cable has a full release version of 1.3.0 now. Were there any changes made to the AIOC firmware by G1LRO, or can the true upstream firmware be used?
I don't want to risk bricking one of the AIOC devices so I'm asking ahead of time!
I am usi g swveral AIOCs having bought these from Nigel (same place you got yours) he gives you the address where to get the downloads whi would you want to get what you need from somewhere else? Down load wverything from where hhe says. And sont be a dodo and skip anything like some thT have posted whining here like I said follow Nigels instructions as to where to get the code it from the guy who origonally created the AIOC. SET IT UP FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS AND IT WORKS.
I have tracked down the primary issue with the AIOCs that I have. That issue turned out to be the 3.5 mm (⅛ inch) plug on the AIOCs that I bought frim Nigel un soldered. Three of the plugs solder tabs did not make to the plug contact internally. I replaced all three with gold plated 3.5 mm plugs that i bought online from amazon and now, all of the AIOCs work like new/ as described so if anyone has any issues with getting tx audio into the radio I would replace these plugs right off the bat. I have recently bought one more each the soldered and unsoldered AIOCs from Nigel. One suggestion that I would offer him would be to offer the AIOCs pre programmed for ASL3 or just the unprogrammed ones that he offers now on his site. Tracking down intermittents is definately a pain in the butt!
