Cockpit WiFi Manager Released

I’m pleased to announce the first release of a WiFi network manager that integrates with the Cockpit administration system used by ASLv3 Appliances. This plugin is now available in the beta testing package stream at the moment and, with some additional community testing, will be added to production. Once in production, this module will be included with the ASLv3 appliance package set for automatic availability.

If there are no reports of issues in the next few days, the package will be promoted to production for general availability.

Here’s a screenshot of what it looks like:

Very cool to see this. I plan on taking my wired node on a trip.

I followed the procedure to switch to the beta and the WiFi manager is not showing up on my dashboard.

Until the package has been promoted to production you will need to :

  • Subscribe to the beta stream
  • Install the package with :
sudo apt install cockpit-wifimanager

Thanks! I have never had the need to try beta releases until now, as I am about ready to return to my ship and needed to configure my network connection to the ship’s WiFi network. That did the trick.

Is there a way to switch to another network if 2 or more are available?

You can do it with nmcli conn down OLD and nmcli conn up NEW. However that isn’t really supportable from a web interface because you’d tear down your management connection in the middle of changing networks.
