Can't create server to get started as a new user

I'm brand new to AllStar. I'm trying to get it working for Hamfest starting today. I'd like to join the YouTuber Jason 2.0's AllStar node as people start arriving.

My understanding is that I need a node # so that I can configure QSO One to use as a client. I believe the first step is to go the portal and the create a node. It advises me I need to create a Server first. When I fill out the form, no matter what I put there, when I hit Submit I just get a blank version of the form.

Later on I'll get the hardware to run Allstar over RF at home.

73 and thank you in advance,
Mike and Becky

With "WT Mode", you do not need a node #.

@WA3WCO Thank you for the response. At least in QSO One, when I click Connect it makes a beep that sounds like an error beep and does nothing. I was assuming that is because AllStar is not configured yet because it needs a node #.

Steps to reproduce:

  • be a new account without a server or node configured yet
  • follow the documentation guide at ( AllStarLink Portal - AllStarLink Manual )
  • when you get to the step to add a server, note that a form comes up
  • fill out the form and it Submit
  • note that the form just resets to blank and no server is created

Without being able to create a server, I appear to be stuck not being able to get my auto assigned node. Without my auto assigned node, I appear to be stuck not being able to connect with QSO One.

If you've determined you need a node number, first thing to do is clear your browser history then FULLY quit and restart your browser. Second thing to try is another browser or device. If you're still not able to make it work, open a ticket over on helpdesk.allstarlink.org and I will do it for you.

ps. As Allan said though, you don't need a node number in order to use WT mode. You wouldn't be using regular IAX mode because you don't yet have a node to configure in the first place. For WT mode, the only thing that matters on the Allstar side is that you can log into your account with a browser. In other words, if you can do that, you know the problem is a configuration (or caching) issue in the app itself

That's a problem, but you don't need to do any of that stuff in order to use WT mode in QSO1 or other supported apps. WTO does not require a node number, so you don't need to create a server or request a note number.

@KK6RQ Thank you for the quick response. I guess now my question is more for QSO One app, since that is what I was trying to use. I know this isn't the right forum for that. That is where it shows it us using WT mode yet when I click on Connect for Jason's node it beeps and does nothing, which I assume is an error. I will seek help with someone more familiar with QSO One who may be able to verify I'm doing it correctly (probably not).

Regarding the inability to create a server (in my attempt to get a node number which I now understand I don't need), I tried from multiple devices with the same result. I'm heavily guessing it isn't the browser or browser or browser cache. I have only tried Chrome.

Thank you again for the responses.

I am connected in WT mode! After the info you gave and a little help from N4KV. I had not yet configured the allstarlink password in the app which is needed for WT mode. With that in place it works.

I'll fill out the helpdesk ticket later on to get the node number. I eventually want to take a deeper dive and get a node setup at the house.

I looked at your account and it's fine. I was able, as you, to create a server called "Server1". Feel free to edit it to your liking or delete it. You most likely have a content blocker or something that is interfering with the site.
