Is it possible to use a bluetooth ptt mic/spkr with als3?
can i plug in a bluetooth dongle link it to a spkr/mic do some configs and have it work?
or do i need to have a bluetooth to audio box and go from there?

No, there is no supported Bluetooth mode for ASL/app_rpt. Bluetooth lacks the IO needed.
WEll, to be clear, the "headset" profile for Bluetooth.
The only way I can think to do this would be to get a URI with a Kenwood K connector, and one of those Bluetooth adapters for use with Baofengs, and a matching speaker mic. Note: I’ve never heard one of those that sounded reasonable. app_rpt itself doesn’t support any kind of Bluetooth.
Or a BT-RSM capable portable that you talk INTO the node with. Some older radios (Moto XTS5000, for instance) can take aftermarket RSMs with a separate interface unit that attaches to the radio).
Are there plans on expanding the device that can interface with ASL? or are they relying on others to come up with interface solutions?
also, can people spell out some of these abbreviations? I am clueless as to what a RSM is.
Thank you N3IDS
BT = Bluetooth (I expect you got that one…)
RSM = Remote Speaker Mic
There are plans to work on a more general-purpose audio + GPIO channel driver. However that is not simple and will be an interesting problem to tackle. However as CM108/CM119 chips are unbiquitous, it's not a major impedement to using ASL. We're hoping to have something to kick the tires on in the next year or so.
Thanks… sometimes the old brain just flatlines…
i wonder what profile bluetooth is using for sending the ptt along with the audio…
You can install BareSIP on your node then create a virtual SIP phone. There’s scripting available that should be able to dial into the node on boot (ChatGPT is your friend) and use a Bluetooth headset as an audio source in BareSIP.
Although workable, even this feels unnecessary.
I would suggest simply using one of the existing clients (IAXRPT, Zoiper, RepeaterPhone, DVSwitch Mobile, etc) to connect to the node and then just set whatever BT device you want up on your phone/laptop.
It doesn't, and that's the issue. Bluetooth's base audio profile doesn't have a concept of "COS" or "PTT". That's why app_rpt is integrated tightly with chips that expose the necessary GPIO functions easily.
then how do they sell “bluetooth” mics that have ptt? is there a “side” path?
Those are more than just basic audio devices. I didn't say it was impossible, I just said the basic bluetooth audio profile doesn't do it in the way we need. I don't know if we'll ever have a bluetooth channel directly for something like that. But if someone steps up with the code, sure.
I think I will resign myself to the rank of appliance operator.. after my 3 topics, i am done. I went back to hamvoip, I do not have a brain the size of a planet. that seems to be what is needed to do this stuff.
I think this thread is done.
