Best way to recover or re-install Allstar Link 3

Hello All,

I recently was installing some other software on my debian 12 system and now my ASL3 setup no longer works. A restore of the backup files did not get it working either. I tried a uninstall thru a purge command of the asl3 files and then I tried a re-install of ASL 3 but now get an error message when I try to configure thru asl-menu .The error message says ‘Expected configuration files not found in etc/asterisk directory’ and I can’t load the asl menu. Can anyone please recommend the next troubleshooting step I should take to get my asl3 system running again? thanks in advance and 73,

The purge removed your old configuration files. Try running

sudo apt update
sudo apt install -y --reinstall asl3 asl3-asterisk asl3-asterisk-config \
  asl3-asterisk-modules asl3-menu asl3-update-nodelist allmon3

and reconfigure your node from there.

Hi Chuck,

Thanks for your reply. I did the commands you had recommended but I am still getting the same error stating that expected config files are not found in asterisk directory.

Try using :

sudo asl-backup-menu

and select the Restore ASL3 "default" configuration option.

Hi Allan,

thanks-the command you mentioned got my asl-menu working again and I was able to load the backup config.

I’d recommend taking an image of your Linux computer while ASL3 is still working. You could use Clonezilla or another imaging program that works with Linux. Then if something breaks, you can easily and quickly recover the computer to a working state. I’ve used Clonezilla with Linux computers, and you can very quickly recover the computer back to a working state.

I use a Shari PiHat-4U for ASL3, and I use Win32 Image, a free program to take an image of the memory module. I’ll periodically take images of the memory module so that I can easily recover.
