Hi all, simple question, I am building an Allstar node using the raspberry pi, cm108 sound card and modified Baofeng 888. Using you tube , however the modern 888 board layout is quite different to the older 888’s. Does anyone know how to modify new (February 2021) 888’s to work with the node
There do seem to have been a few versions of the BF888 board. The pictures in the link below are the same as mine so see if they are any help.
Hi thanks for the reply, However, I ordered another 888 and it ties up with some videos / instructions on line. I believe people call in the “short board” variant. Best wishes.
For what it may be worth or not,
here is a link (old) to a fella that did some mods some time ago. 2018
You may find it helpful or just interesting.
I did not try this, just did a NET Interview with him back then when dvs was new.
Thanks Mike, an interesting article that I’m still digesting.
Best Regards
Hi! I found your post and although its been a couple of years, I was wondering if you could share what you did to get your node working, since I have 2023 board and cant seem to find something for this online.
I am facing some issues and was wondering maybe my wires are in the wrong place.
I had the same problem as the OP and after making a few Bryans that worked then started to have problems with them because the newer versions of the 888 had moved certain things around. I gave up on the idea of the baofeng 888 and found the AIOC that lets you use whatever radio with a Kenwood connector and depending on where you get the AIOC from there might be no soldering at all.
The last portable node I made with an 888 was taken out of the case with the AIOC and it made it small-is because I kept the aluminum part to dissipate the heat, if not it would have been just a bit bigger than a Raspberry Pi case.
Thanks Alex! I read up on the AIOC and it seems very promising.
Unfortunately it is hard to source such stuff in AP Land. Shipping costs add up as well. The best we can do with is AliExpress where not everything is available.
I have gotten it to work partially using instructions on allstarsetup.com but I am having issues with TX and PTT.
