AURSINC Shari PiHat

Are there any good instructions for AURSINC Shari PiHat - Portable SA818?

It does not appear to be connected. I can access the SA818-menu asl-menu.......

Using Raspbery pi 3B

Return it to Amazon and get a proper SHARI for a few dollars more from kits4hams who developed the SHARI

Thanks but I want to give this one a chance first, as another HAM I have talked to says they work great, and he has two running.

You haven't provided anything to debug with nor is it clear what the actual issue is?

I don't have a bug as I know and I don't know what the issue is..... I am connected, I hear my radio burst and a voice say "Connecting node................................. " over the HT I have it set to.

I have three lights on this PWR, COMM, COS, and PTT. The PWR light is on, and the COMM light is blinking Yellow, COS and PTT are off.

Right now I am calling this a user error, since this is my first time setting up a node.

Can I have my Receive and Transmit frequency the same?

first thing to do is to make your way to the Portal and register the Server and Node settings

next is to program the PiHat - frequency, CTCSS, etc.

after that, navigate to the interface testing and settings starting from sudo asl-menu, configuring the node as registered on the Portal

I have done all that, I can connect to nodes, I can hear my radio chime up and say my node number and the node number its connecting to, I see the connection on the other nodes node connections.

I can't transmit into the node...

As stated Green PWR light, and a blinking yellow COMM light, COS and PTT are off... PTT does turn red when connecting to a node, or after restart.

Does /etc/sa818.conf show what you expect is programmed in it? Have you tried a 2nd radio?
When I troubleshoot, I don't discount any possible human error on my part; approach it as though you have just been hit by a shovel. Seriously. Test everything and eliminate possibilities, one by one.

Also, unless they've started making duplex fake SHARIs (I haven't been paying attention), by definition it's a simplex node, so yeah, TX/RX freqs must be the same (A duplex model would have 2x sa-818 modules)

I just did a file search and I can't find any sa818.conf file... Is there a driver I need?

I have tried two radios both Baofangs, I did not try my Yeasu...

I think the blinking yellow COMM light means something, but I have no clue how to diagnose the problem...

I can access the node and have it transmit a test tone and the Time of day, and I can hear it on my HT..

Side note: The last time I tried the time of day it gave me the wrong time, but it did the first two tests.. ( I am only adding this because if the computer clock is off there are a lot of things that wont work.) The computer clock is set correctly!

Thanks
Rob

An ASL3 install creates that file (at least mine did; maybe someone could chime in?). If it's not there, I would simply reprogram the module to be certain (it's not possible to read an sa-818 after the fact). I'd also double and triple check my radio is programmed properly and is dead on-frequency. I'd get another radio and test to make sure the radios hear each other. Just remember, treat it as though you've been hit by a shovel and aren't working at full capacity...

Add'l: No, no driver involved. Don't worry about clocks right now; probably wrong TZ set). Get the basic functionality sorted first, then worry about the other stuff.

Ok I just got to thinking... Since you said "mine did" I am assuming you have the same one I have..

There is a power port on the node. I had it plugged in since the beginning, and it did not produce any test tones or the time, the PTT light did not turn red, when I removed the power from the node, then it started transmitting...

I think I need to start over.. Is there a way to run first setup again or do I need to reformat and reinstall?

I have a real SHARI Pi-Hat / RPi 4 from kitsforhams. Got it at least 5 years ago when they were first offered. Originally installed on HamVOIP but upgraded to ASL3 when f@#$ing T-Mobile went CGNAT so I had to redo everything with a Tailscale tunnel.
I would just reinstall, following the ASL3 instructions on the SHARI group on groups.io (technically a dick move, since it's a CC clone). If you use a 2nd SD card, you aren't "re-doing" anything you can't undo in 5 minutes...

Silly me, I wasn't SSHed into my pi, I do have a /etc/sa818.conf file, and everything looks as expected.

I am going to reinstall and see what happens. Its not solved yet, but I am going to leave it here for now.

Thank you!!!!

SOLVED!

The issue was I had to change a couple of settings

In the asl-menu I had to edit the node and set Duplex type to Half duplex with telemetry (hotspot)

Then under customization menu I set it to "all scan"

Then simpleusb-tune-menu, menu 1 Select active USB device.

Hope this helps someone else.

Early Review: I emailed the company hoping for tech support, and the next day they replied offering me a replacement (no tech help).. They where quick to respond, I am sure the one from kits4hams is superior, however this one is now working, I am getting good reports on my audio, and I really like how quickly their support responded.

Thanks to everyone here who responded.
