ASL3 node via mobile phone hotspot can connect to very few nodes

Trying to understand the WHY…

Reading other posts I think it has to do with my IP address changing on my AT&T iphone hotspot. What I don’t understand is why some nodes will accept a connection from me when I’m mobile. I’m wondering if it is a node setting. For example, I seem to be able to connect to HUBNet AllStar Audio Test Server node number 40894 each and every time. I usually can connect to 55553 which is a parrot node. I can sometimes connect to the (1) designated Hubnet node for mobile hotspot users 43845. It might not work when I first get on the road but might work after 10 mins.

Can anyone think of why some nodes accept my connection on mobile hotspot and others don’t? Before I setup one more node at home and one in the cloud, I want to make sure I can actually connect to my future nodes. If I knew why some work and others don’t, it might give me confidence that I can configure mine in a way that let me in.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Anytime I run a mobile hotspot, I connecct to a node at home. I direct the home node to what I want to connected to.

Chris, there are several things at play with a ever changing IP and sometimes proxy ip.

When your IP changes faster than that info gets updated in the nodeslist distributed to all nodes, the intended connectee may not have the later IP or the correct current ip in the list to allow it. (part of security)

There are issues with GSM networks that you will find posted in the forum here.
You may find some workarounds outside of this in the manual that may help.
