When I go to “Software Updates” and select it. It says “Loading available updates failed
Failed to obtain authentication.
Please reload the page after resolving the issue.” but I have not done anything but login and go to software update? Where can I find what is actually failing? Is there a log somewhere?
At the top of the Cockpit screen do you see a button that says “Limited access” ? If so, click on that button so that it shows “Administrative access”. The software update function should now work.
Thanks, that fixed it. Did I miss this in the documentation? Is this new? I saw a video on ASL3 and this did not occur.
It’s not “new”. While the ASL3 Manual Cockpit Basics page has a section that talks about “Administrative Access” we did not highlight any specific cases where the elevated access is needed. If you have any suggestions about how we can make improvements to the documentation then please file a GitHub issue @ ASL3 Manual
IMHO, the Cockpit Software Update page also could do a better job of letting you know that it needs the added privs.
