I would like to wire the URI up to my Yaesu FT857D and would like to here any comments concerning the wiring diagram posted on the FT897. Could one use the wiring diagram replacing the PCI radio interface points for the URI points?
Yes and no. For a audio and keying there will probably be no issues. For
control of frequency and mode, you'll need to purchase the Yeasu CT62
RS-232 adapter cable.
Please also note that we have never tested app_rpt with an FT857 so we
can't tell you for certain that app_rpt will work with it or not.

Yes, that's about it. Make sure you set the usbradio.conf to use an
external COS/COR as it will not be able to use squelch noise. Also
you my have to tweak some of the voltage divider resistors to adjust the
TX audio level.

Steve,
I do have the CT62. So all I would need is to make up or match the
PTT, COS ,grounds RX Audio and TX Audio cable to the rig from the URI?
