When the first versions of AllStarLink on Debian were created, one existing version was left out. That version was for the BeagleBoard-xM. The BBxM has a daughter board called the LOX for I/O to 2 radios. In my conversations with Jim, he really liked the Beagle and LOX combination. Or was it bagels and lox? I was never quite sure. Jim wanted me to make sure I continued to support the BBxM/LOX. We had existing users and they should not be left out in the cold. I agreed.
I had problems making it work the way we wanted it, so it got shelved. I did not want to forget, so it I kept it very visible on the shelf. I could not help but see it. Something of a thorn in my side. I do not know how many users are out there. I do not know if the BBxM is still available. I do not know if DMK is still selling LOX board. But, a promise is a promise so here we go.
I have built a proof of concept image for the BBxM. The image is built with Debian Stretch. The image requires a 8GB or larger SD card (for now)
The login is repeater
The password is allstarlink
These are the things I still need to do:
Build the image with apt-get install rather then building from source. You will then be able to do a apt-get upgrade and get the most current AllStarLink programs and upgraded Debian Stretch programs.
Shrink the image so it will copy to a smaller SD card and then fill the root partition to fit the available space on the card.
Regenerate the ssh keys on first boot.
Set the user repeater to allow login with the password of allstarlink the first time then force setting a new password.
Tweak the beagle.conf settings so a first time user (are there any?) will be able to make carrier access work and not get bit by the CTCSS setting.
This image assumes you can edit config files in /etc/asterisk.
I’m one of the Beaglebard/LOC users. It was a a great combination in its day! Mine’s been on the shelf for a couple years. I will resurrect it with your new image when I get home later this week and share my results. You know me... If there’s a way to screw something up, I usually find it ;-).
Thanks for carrying on in Jim’s great tradition.
May the new year be a great one for you!

Ditto (sort of). I have two, one shelved and the other one has been in operation for 4 or 5 years now. I purchased the second system from an individual because DMK was no longer making the LOC. The original issue I had in getting it to work revolved around the fact the BB-xM does not have a hardware MAC, so it changed on every boot. I need to find my old notes, but I believe I solved the issue in the router by using DHCP on setup, then dedicated the port. Every time I reboot, which has happened a few times over the years it always finds the correct port and corresponding ports forwarded. It is also my original EchoLink to Allstar box.
I’ll test it out over the next couple of days, and report to the list my experience, after I make sure I have the current card backed up. By the way, I believe that card is 4 GB, so I may have to rebuild the original on a larger card, then use the app-get.
Have I missed anything?
Thanks,

Bob,
I need to check for sure but the MAC is staying the same for me with this build. I assign the IP address to the MAC on each board I work on so I can find it quickly through oh so many reboots.
The image posted already has AllStarLink installed from source. No apt-get required. The NEXT version will be built with apt-get install. It too will have AllStarLink installed. When I push out updates to the ASL code, you will be able to do a apt-get upgrade. This will update any of the ASL modules and any Debian programs that need to be upgraded. This includes the kernel. If the kernel is upgraded, DAHDI will get rebuilt to match.
The current kernel in the bbxm-asl image is 4.9.x

Very good. I just checked, and my BBxM generates a new MAC on each reboot. It is in software. I never did figure out how to generate a MAC on boot up. That’s cool if you’ve solved that “feature” of the BBxM
I should have it up and running in the next hour.
Thanks,

I didn’t have a small card. I get the best prices on 32 GB card, approx same price as 16 GB, so that is what I had.
Thanks,

The BBxM has a daughter board called the LOX for I/O to 2 radios. In my
conversations with Jim, he really liked the Beagle and LOX combination.
Or was it bagels and lox? I was never quite sure. Jim wanted me to make
sure I continued to support the BBxM/LOX. We had existing users and they
should not be left out in the cold. I agreed.
I had problems making it work the way we wanted it, so it got shelved. I
did not want to forget, so it I kept it very visible on the shelf. I
could not help but see it. Something of a thorn in my side. I do not
know how many users are out there. I do not know if the BBxM is still
available. I do not know if DMK is still selling LOX board. But, a
promise is a promise so here we go.
I have built a proof of concept image for the BBxM. The image is built
with Debian Stretch. The image requires a 8GB or larger SD card (for now)
The login is repeater
The password is allstarlink
These are the things I still need to do:
Build the image with apt-get install rather then building from source.
You will then be able to do a apt-get upgrade and get the most current
AllStarLink programs and upgraded Debian Stretch programs.
Shrink the image so it will copy to a smaller SD card and then fill the
root partition to fit the available space on the card.
Regenerate the ssh keys on first boot.
Set the user repeater to allow login with the password of allstarlink
the first time then force setting a new password.
Tweak the beagle.conf settings so a first time user (are there any?)
will be able to make carrier access work and not get bit by the CTCSS
setting.
This image assumes you can edit config files in /etc/asterisk.

The default disk layout did not lend itself to resizing. I built the image on a 8GB SD. I can now control the layout so I can get the image down to under 4GB. It can be expanded to fill the SD card.
I'll push a update later this week.

I have seen this behavior with some SD cards. The issue is the quality of the card itself. Not all SD cards are created equal. Generic cards frequently have this problem.
The revised image coming out next week should fix your problem.

Yes, the revised will help, but it is a real SANDISK Extreme card - I have piles of them for all my RaspberryPi work. It did fit for the record, even though it gave me a warning.
It's all good, I got 16GBs too.
Thanks,
