AllScan UCi120 with Alinco EMS-57. No DTMF

Hi all, I have a working UCi120 with a genuine Alinco EMS-57 DTMF mic. The issue I have is that when using the DTMF keypad on the mic nothing happens. I have it switched to DTMF on the mic. I do not have another mic to test. Suggestions very welcomed. Ways to test, things I’ve missed etc.

A thing I’ve found with the EMS57 is that it sends quite the DC spike at the start of each button press. So, it hits the AGC pretty hard, and sometimes isn’t recognized by Asterisk unless you hold down a key for a while.

I don’t have this problem with my old Kenwood MC-48, which I generally prefer using over the EMS57, but they’re very hard to find, having not been made in many years.

To test your DTMF, go to the Asterisk CLI, either from asl-menu or from bash:

asterisk -rvvv

press and hold PTT, and press buttons on the microphone. You should see messages come up on the terminal corresponding to which button you pressed. If it doesn’t work right away, try holding a key down for a while.

For optimal results, you may need to adjust the rx level in simpleusb or usbradio (which ever driver you are using) or with the knob on the back of the UCI120.

If you are using simpleusb, which is recommended in this case, with the EMS57 in particular, you may get better decoding results if you enable the plfilter in simpleusb_tune_cli, but this will restrict the bottom end significantly.
