About the Special Forums

The Special Forums category is a collector for special-purpose groups/categories outside of the core Annoucements and AllStarLink main discussion areas. The available sub categories are as follows:

Third-Party Apps

This category is for makers of software and hardware that is not part of the AllStarLink software stack to discuss their products with users, provide help, and and interact with the community about their wares. Forum admins will relocate threads about third-party apps here.

Beta Testers

This forum is a closed forum for beta testers who are worked on shaking out the bugs of upcoming releases of AllStarLink software. This forum is "closed" only so that discussions do not intermingle with the general community to avoid distractions, discussions about changes that may never be made, or intermediate stages of software use/configuration that don't survive to the public release. Anyone is welcome to join the beta testing group so long as you meet the following criteria:

  1. If something goes wrong, your can easily recover your node from backups or other saved configuration
  2. You have generalized Linux skills such as understanding basic commands, ability to use the shell terminal of Linux, ability to copy/paste output data into bug reports, etc.
  3. You acknowledge that a beta release may have other bugs, incomplete fixes, or may in rare cases not work right at all for your configuration and that you can live with this
  4. You may need to edit configuration files to fix issues or test things or to roll back to previous versions of software

If this is you and you're interested in joining, go to the Beta Testers group and click Request in the top right. Enter a brief statement that you understand the requirements to be a beta tester and click Submit Request. An admin will review your request as soon as practical.

Vendors

This category is for the AllStarLink developers to engage with developers and makers of third-party apps and hardware for pre-release changes that are not ready, not public, etc. This forum is "closed" so that discussions do not intermingle with the general community to avoid distractions, discussions about changes that may never be made, or intermediate stages of software use/configuration that don't survive to the public release. To join this group, you must be the developer/vendor that provides clients (RF or software) for use with AllStarLink. This category is not for external applications such as dashboards, announcers, weather announcers, etc.

If this is you and you're interested in joining, go to the Vendors group and click Request in the top right. Enter the URL to your product. An admin will review your request as soon as practical.
