Hello everyone, I have set up two allstarlink nodes in the past one using a Yaesu FTM-150 radio and ARA-1+ sound fob, the other using a Kits4Hams radio hat.

This time I'd like to see what it would take to use a bluetooth headset, specifically my David Clark HBT-30. It pairs directly to my RasperryPi and even has a button that I'm sure could be programmed to function as PTT.

It's my understanding that AllStarLink needs a CM108 audio chip, but there has to be some way to get this to work without a USB audio adapter.

Just looking for anyone that can point me in the right direction. Thank you!

At this time, there is not. The internal logic of the audio channels in app\_rpt are designed exclusively for CM108/CM119 audio systems.

Theoretically, I guess someone could create a client that sends/receives to/from app\_rpt using USRP, and supports Bluetooth PTT/audio. Analog\_Processor from DVSwitch could probably already handle the audio part. Don't know what you'd do for PTT, though.

Other than that, the only option I know of would be to use something like an Allscan UCI80 or another K-connector type URI and one of those K-connector compatible Bluetooth microphones sold for use with Baofeng and similar HT's. AFAIK, they're all pretty terrible, though.
I just bought one for the express purpose of seeing how bad it is.

There is ongoing work to abstract the audio channel drivers to remove the ties to CM1xx devices. However it will make configuration a lot more complicated when it comes to GPIO mapping.

Have you been able to pair it with your Raspberry Pi? If it shows as an audio device in ALSA you should be able to install a soft phone app like BareSIP and follow the instructions for setting up SIP phones.

Huh, this is a really unique approach to the problem. Thank you!

It's a little over my head, but I'll give it a shot.

ChatGPT can help with BareSIP and Asterisk/Allstar configuration.

Hi Eric, I have bluetooth audio enabled and connected, Baresip installed and configuredin ASL3. Now what do I do? Thanks

So now you should be able to call your node from BareSIP. Just dial the node number like you're calling an extension on a PBX. Once connected you can connect to another node using \*3NNNNN. Then when you're connected to the other node you use \*99 and # to key up and key off. To disconnect the node use \*1NNNNN.

Eric,

Thanks for your answer. Apparently Baresip is looking for alsa. But Asterix is not ready to play with alsa and I had to install pulse audio. Can baresip work with pulse ausio?

I really don’t know. Probably should research it yourself and report back.

Ok, I got pulseaudio installed and configured in baresip. OS speaker-test works with the BT headset. But baresip /dial fails with timeout. I can connect to my node using the the ASL3 tel number and pin. But no audio...
