Radioless node problem

I am trying to set up a radioless node, and I must have missed something.
Using a pi3 with an RA-25.
It “looks” like it is working, but I am kind of stopped, mainly because I have no clue what I am doing.
I think my “local” ( read radioless) node is 506090.
My “remote” node doesn’t exist yet, but I think I should be seeing
something.
The pi looks like it is connected and there is a “heartbeat” on the RA-25.
So I now have a pi with a solid red LED and a flashing greed LED and a
RA-25 with a flashing green LED.
And I’m sorry to say, I have no idea what I am doing.
Thanks
Don, K8ZGW

Not certain what you’re trying to do…
I run an Allstar “radioless” Node (actually a Server / Hub) 45479
It has the Allstar SW running on a Rpi3.
It ONLY has (1) Ethernet cable and a Power cable. That’s it. No RA-25 nor anything else.
It’s “job” is to run as an Allstar "Server / Hub) for other Allstar Nodes to connect and communicate with. Here is a look at it - from the Allstar Bubble Chart.
HERE: http://stats.allstarlink.org/getstatus.cgi?45479 The Radioless Server / Hub is 45479.
Hope that helps…

Don,

What do you have connected to the RA-25?

Don’t you need a speaker and microphone interfaced to the RA-25 to use as a radio-less node?

Hi Don, welcome to the allstarlink support group.
I think what you are trying to do is to make a RF less node and not a radioless node as we think of it.

Your goal is to take a pair of node with RA-25 audio adaptor and connected them into a speaker and a microphone with a PTT like switch?

In the allstarlink world we see that as a node with a radio interface. A radio less node is a node that have no audio interface at all. It is just a central place to connect multiple node that have limited bandwith. The radio less node will usely be into a high bandwith/resource site.

In your case you need to use the simpleUSB driver with the RA-25 as the interfacing mode to control the ra-25.

Here is the pinout of the ra-25

RA-25 DB9 Pinout:

1 - Right (Aux or Tone) Output

2 - Left (Main or Voice) Output

3 - COS Logic Input - (pull near ground required for valid input)

4 - CTCSS Logic Input - (pull near ground required for valid input)

5 - PTT Output

6 - Discriminator or Receiver Audio Input - (level controlled by potentiometer)

7 - Not Used - brought to a solder pad to be used optionally.

8 - Ground - (Digital and Analog)

9 - Not Used - brought to a solder pad to be used optionally.

You will need to connect the output speaker to pin 1 or 2 and pin 8 (ground) .You will need an amplified speaker set like for a computer. this will also gve you a way to control the volume.

Then you will connect the microphone you want to pin 6 and pin 8 (ground) and the PTT switch pin 3 (cor) since you wont be using a ctcss signal. I know this sound illogic as there is a PTT signal ( pin 5) But that signal is an output that is usely driving the TX of a radio or repeater. The COR pin (3) is an input and this tell the software that it has audio to send to the allstarlink network…

Hope this help a bit.

For the programing part It will be better to come back with question.

I do have a mic and speaker connected to the RA-25.

On the 9 pin out of the RA-25 I have …

pin

1 Audio out, to one side of an amp’ed speaker

2 no connection

3 PTT

4 no connection

5 Incoming connection, not YET connected (will be an LED and a 1 K to 5 volts)

6 Mic hi

7 no connection

8 Ground … Mic lo, other side of PTT and other of of incoming audio ( amp’ed speaker)

9 no connection

The touchtone pad will go across mic audio as well, but not yet connected

Thanks

Thanks Pierre, that is just what I have, the RA-25 is connected to a USB of the Pi, running allstar software,

There may be a problem with what it is called … an “RF less node” has no radio, so I have seen them called “radio less nodes”

I guess it’s a matter of semantics …

Don,

Did you configure simpleusb.conf for COS active low since you are using the mic PTT for your COS signal?

And since the mic PTT is ground you need to use change carrierfrom setting to carrierfrom=usbinvert.

Make sure ctcssfrom=no

Don,

Hook PTT on your mic to COS on the RA-25.
You may also need to feed 5 to 8 volts to power the Mic element and DTMF
pad (depending on the MIC used)
