The problem is that though “A few” is not an issue
Nasty folks will send millions it’s called a Denial of Service attack (DOS)
One of the original spam-a-lot companies was shut down after his ISP was hit with this kind of attack.
Simply ignoring the pings… works. (At least in some cases).
you did skip out of the helpful menu-guided configuration straight into hand-editing files.
you might not want to do that.
the starting place is indeed asl-menu and then go on to Node Settings.
leave the line
rxchannel = dahdi/pseudo ; No radio (hub)
alone in the top of the rpt.conf file
way down nearly at the end of the rpt.conf file is the stanza establishing your node configuration(s)
you will know you have found the stanza when you see a line like
[<yournode#>](node-main,allscan-uci)
Good afternoon,
Many things are working. I can tx dtmf *921, wait for the beep, then tx some audio and have it come back to me. This tells me the following:
- The radio CTCSS, freq, etc is set up correctly.
- The URI has proper control of the PTT
- There is an audio path from the field transmitter to the PI and back to the field RCVR.
- The dtmf tones are being properly decoded. I am unclear on whether that is done in the URI and sent across the USB link in digital form or if that is sent from the URI to the PI as digital audio and then decoded at the PI.
I made the 921/922 “parrot” work by removing the edit out ; before the 921 and 922 commands in rpt.config. but this doesn’t seem to work when done with the *3 function or linking commands. I am guessing that there is something small but important wrong with the way I have this setup. I’m almost up and running but I am also stopped at this point. Any suggestions you could make would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Craig
always amazes me when people do things on the radio or on the internet that are just pointlessly destructive. I always think that anyone skilled enough to create a virus must surely be skilled enough to get a good skilled job to keep them busy.
