No Audio In/Out URIxB Motrola M120

I am setting up a new installation. Using a Motorola M120, URIxB, RPi3 B+, and version 1.6-01 Allstar image to link our club repeater to AllStar and Echolink. I used the menu to set everything up and all looks good, except no audio in or out via EchoLink.

Test tones via via simpleusb-tune-menu does not produce any audio out.

Seemed to have tried everything. DMK claims the URIxB device should be ok if the green light is blinking.

Please help

W5MF setting up W5NC node.

Isolate the problem in half whenever troubleshooting. Is it the radio or the computer side?

Put a scope or an amplified speaker on the output of the URI (Mic input to the radio). If you have audio there it’s on the radio side.

What pins are you using on the URI for the following?

PTT
TX Audio
RX Audio
COR/PL detect
Ground

What accessory pins are you using on the motorola radio for the following?

PTT
TX Audio
RX Audio
COR/PL detect
Ground

Marshall,
using all of those pins.

wd6awp,
test on the rx audio from the radio and I definately have receive there. nothing comming in on echoline. In cosfrom mode is usbinvert and ctcssfrom mode is usbinvert. the jumper JU551 inside the M120 is on position B.

@W5MF,

Earlier you said:

So I thought you’re having a transmit problem. But this

indicates you tested the receive side.

I also want to mention it’s a good idea to disable the Rx CTCSS when troubleshooting a new install… lessens the confusion substantially.

Harold,

How about giving us the pin numbers you are using so we can check to make sure you are using the right pins?

Marty,

Okay, first question.

You are using the following setup on the Motorola M120 and JU551 set to A.

This gives you flat receiver audio on pin 11.

URI 20 to Radius 7

URI 21 to Radius 11

URI 22 to Radius 5

URI 1 to Radius 3

Then you say in simpleusb.conf channel driver and you have set COS and CTCSS to NO. So you are not using a signal to go from the radio to URI.

How are you getting COS or CTCSS signal to tell the simpleusb channel driver that there is a receiver signal present?

In my mind this configuration would not work.

You would need to use the usbradio.conf channel driver to let the DSP generate COS or CTCSS logic in the software.

Try using the usbradio channel driver and setup your node using the radio-tune-menu.

See if you have better luck with that.

Marshall,

I just realized that I bought your cable on ebay (Harold Fitzgerald….nickname Marty). I got it today and am starting all over from scratch.

Using your cable I move JU551 to B.

I am installing “RPi2-3-4_V1.6-01_Allstar” image on a RPI 3B+ .

I have a DMK URIxB with EEPROM. I’m told that the EEPROM is inside.

Any advice after that? Remember I am starting all over with a fresh install.

Marty,

Nice to meet you.

Yes, JU551 should be set to position B in the radio. This gives you de-emphasised audio on pin 11 of the accessory connector.

You should be able to follow the instructions provided with the cable for programming the radio correctly.

You can use the simple simpleusb channel driver with my cable.

With the instructions provided you should be able to get your node up and running.

If not, send me an email directly and I will try and help you out.

The problem turned out to be a bad URI. Once Marty was able to use another URI from a friend the problem went away. See the included email.

Subject: RE: [AllStarLink Discussion Groups] No Audio In/Out URIxB Motrola M120

Marshall,

Got the new one yesterday and it passed audio both directions right away. So it was the URI.

I am now fine tuning. Changed a few things like the duplex from 1 to 0 to stop the ping pong. Added telemdefault=1 and changed eannmode=2. It now announces when people connect and disconnect. Echolink users are announced with call and number but disconnects call signs only. That interesting. Implemented supermon which is very helpful.

While I was waiting on the URI I setup EchoLink on a Kenwood V71 and a laptop that someone had. I like it and it was nice having all the announcements. Took me 45 minutes to setup, BUT I want to stick with the linux/RPi solution because of the footprint and also the possibility of linking DMR/D-Star/YSF into the link, not to mention having AllStar.

The linux version a bit more difficult to configure because I have to change parameters in a file, but I am using WinSCP to open and edit the files along with putty to restart Asterick or reboot. So its not too bad.

Please pass any other configuration advice that you can think of.

Thank you

Marty W5MF
