all of that looks good. usbradio is loaded and selected for the node
you should be able to run the usbradio-tune-menu
i’m making some changes on one of my nodes to try and duplicate your errors
give me a bit.

I just tried again after making those last changes, but still seeing this error: USBradio must be enabled in modules.conf and selected in │
│ rpt.conf
this is not making sense. does simpleusb-radio-tune-menu load?
OK I tried to reply with this info yesterday and the server told me I had too many replies in the first 24 hours of joining. So finally replying now
Agreed, not making sense.
No, that menu no longer loads after making the latest updates. Neither that one nor the usbradio menu will load right now.
I am not above reimaging this sd-card, but I just wrote this image yesterday, so it is basically brand new.
If rxchannel is correct and load is correct in manager.conf and the usbradio_tune_node.conf file is correct then something else is broken and I would recommend re-image the drive. For the micro sd cards I don’t recommend the black ones that come with them. They are prone to failure. I prefer sandisk ultra HD’s the red and gray ones. But there are other good ones also.
Thank you

I’ll increase your trust level so that won’t happen again. I’m sorry for the inconvenience.
I will reimage. I don’t have any Sandisk cards right now, except for a 64GB one, which would be overkill for this. I’ll pickup some of those soon. But I run the black cards in all of my hotspots and usually don’t have issues, and all of these are pretty new cards also. I’m going to keep trying with one of these.
After re-imaging, should I use the SimplexUSB or usbradio option for the RIM-Alinco device?
I do not know if the the dr235 passes discriminator audio out or not. I would recommend just using the simplusb channel driver.
It’s just me (because I’m a CLI sort of a guy) but I don’t like to rely on the menu to configure my nodes. For some things it ok, like for launching simple-tune-menu. But for really seeing what happening and configuring your node beyond what the menu provides, the Linux command line interface is the way to go.
I know Linux can be daunting if not impossible for many people and that’s OK. We’re not all programmers. There is a good tool that many node owners find very useful called WinSCP.
Reimaging may fix the problems you’re having, but if not this might be the next endeavor for you.
I don’t mind Linux at all. What few commands I don’t know, I can always Google.
But I wasn’t able to find documentation on what the conf files should be set to for this specific model of Allstar interface device (the RIM-Alinco). So I chose the use the menus built into the image, assuming they would make the edits that I needed.
Do you know about the WiKi?
OK all reimaged on a new sd-card and I ran through the asl-menu and chose simpleusb. The node is populating again on this page - http://stats.allstarlink.org
After the main menu setup, what is the first thing I should test?
you need to run simpleusb-tune-menu to set the levels and make sure it is receiving and transmitting
values that you may need to adjust for your radio are in /etc/asterisk/simpleusb.conf
carrierfrom=usbinvert
ctcssfrom=usbinvert
invertptt=0
from looking at the dr235 manual those should be the correct setting looks like everything is (active low)
can change those values to the other choices if those don’t work
Set ctcssfrom=none the first time. If you want ctcss detection you can set it to usb or usbinvert after proving carrierfrom=usb or usbinvert works correctly.
That eliminates any confusion and simplifies troubleshooting greatly.
I assume you mean ctcssfrom=no instead of none, since the quoted instructions in the file list that option.
So far I am having the same response as before. I am toying with settings though.
OK after changing the ctcssfrom = no I am now getting response and courtesy tone from the node.
It only responds to me (I key my HT and the node replies) literally every-other key-up. I’ll key it and get a courtesy tone, wait for the carrier to drop, then key it again and nothing. Then key it a 3rd time and I get a reply. I am watching the s-meter on the dr235 and it follows this same pattern described.
Also I dial *70 or *81 and get no reply, which is the same thing as before. I did play with the RX voice level with the display in the menu, and set it between the 2 v arrows. Current setting is 300. I’m also hearing the unit ID every 10 minutes, which I wasn’t hearing before at all.
Definitely getting closer…
What does the radio do? Does it start to transmit with simpleusb-tune-menu option F (toggle PTT with tone…)
What does the simpleusb-tune-menu show when you do option 2 (set RX voice level) AND use another radio to transmit on the correct frequency and ctcss/pl tone?
Looks like we were typing at the same time
You have a simplex radio, correct? If so is duplex set correctly? I think it should be duplex=1 but check the comments.
duplex = 0 ; Duplex 0,1
; 0 - half duplex
; 1 - full duplex
