Multiple nodes not registering

First time ever in years of using my HamVoip based node it suddenly doesn't register. node# 572380. Uncertain how to proceed.

I reset the ratelimiter. Usual thing we see with HamVOIP nodes. Something fails in their network path and they start spewing out packets over the ratelimit. 572380 is back online.

....Seems the rate limit settings are the actual cause here and this problem could occur with any nodes using IAX2 registration. Also, couldn't the rate limit potentially be hit by multiple node registrations occurring from the same source IP address or perhaps if IAX2 got reloaded multiple times in quick succession? I'm not aware of, nor have I seen any HamVoIP related packet storms being caused by the registration process? Just curious as to the cause. Thanks!

We've not run into any reported problems of many-nodes-one-server hitting the ratelimiter. Every time I look at the associated IP address, it's never been a case of more than one or two nodes max per IP. We had to put the ratelimiter in because of DDoS attacks against the IAX2 registration service.

Regarding it being HamVOIP, all I can say is this is observational based on user report. Nodes being self-reported presenting the problem are identified by the owners as HamVOIP. Why this happens is unclear to me nor do I have any way to reproduce the issue. The largest example was when there was a Verizon Wireless outage, and when the VZW network came back up we were flooded with continuous packets. The characteristic is also problematic because it doesn't stop - it's continuous so it never allows the meter token bucket to empty and reset.

I added some additional logging to the nftables meter. When I get some time, maybe I'll try to graph it through Zabbix to see if there's any correlating trends.

Thanks Jason and node numbers were 471737 and 562081 from memory, but have come back since. An ASL3 upgrade isn’t on the immediate horizon as the hardware are older RPi3’s and located several hundred miles away, so takes a lot of organising. Many thanks for your assistance.
