Loud squelch Tail Quansheng

Chicken burst will not help. Most of these Chinese radios all use the following logic when CTCSS/DCS is enabled on RX:

  • Unmute speaker when signal level is above squelch threshold AND correct tone is detected
  • Mute speaker ONLY when signal level falls below squelch threshold

Thus, the loss of CTCSS tone does not mute the radio speaker, and the squelch crash is still heard when the carrier drops.

Well, I have a 55 Hz wave file 0.5s long that plays after the node is unkeyed, and it seems to be doing the job. As @N2DYI said, that is only when traffic from the network unkeys, so there is still a slight issue.

You can use the UV-K5 custom firmware made by F4HWN which works with SA818

*Armel F4HWN: For Quansheng K5 users with an SA818 based hotspot, special .sa818.bin versions are available in the archive directory. These versions avoid the squelch tail. However, you must first activate Close Tail Command on the SA818.

I have flashed the UV-K5 custom firmware made by F4HWN, but I am having issues trying to figure out how to activate Close Tail Command on the SA818?
Perhaps someone might be able to help with that?

Maybe you can try use software for SA818

whre is option:

--tail TAIL Close CTCSS Tail Tone (Open/Close)

Thanks @SP2ONG-Waldek,
I think the issue is now fixed.
I had set the --tail TAIL to close, but I still got the loud crash. I thought then that there must be a different tail tone that had to be activated, not the Close CTCSS Tail Tone.
This morning, I thought I would try setting it to open, and this fixed the Issue!
Thanks again to everyone who helped here.

I am glad that you managed to solve the problem and maybe others will benefit from the described solution for UV-K5 (nice radio with possibility setting 50 mW TX) & SA818
