I am helping advise a fellow ham on connecting his Yaesu DR2-X repeater to AllStar. I am not famliar with it other than what I see online. Has anyone done this and have any tips or other info to share? I am wondering if the digital and analog modes can be bridged to AllStar or if you can (or have to) put the FM on AllStar and the digital mode stays local?

Thanks, 73, Adrian VE7NZ

Yaesu doesn’t allow digital to interface to the outside with except via their HRI-200 (Wires-x). They deliberately froze out any other digital mode using their repeater (as the DR1x allowed)

I believed john kruk has a documentation about that. You can try to send him an email

I don’t have a DR2X but it seems that an external analog controller (such as Allstar, HamVOIP, etc.) can be used, just like with the DR1X (something I _have_ done).

Here are some links:

Wires-X linkage is restricted to the HRI-200 as someone else posted.

With some limitations, I think you can interface the repeater with other (non-Yaesu) digital networks through RF linking via OpenSpot3 or a Pi-Star hot spot and/or DVSwitch - a complex subject.

I do not know about using the analog port on the repeater to simulate modes other than C4FM - probably not a good idea.

The OP asked about interfacing ASL (analog) not digital.

There is one cabling change between the DR-1X and DR-2X. The DR-2X requires DB15 - pin 12 to be grounded to put the repeater into analog mode, as opposed to pin 11 on the DR-1X. Otherwise, the wiring harness and everything else is the same. I recommend a cable from Marshall at URI Cables and to generically follow Dave’s article for assistance. [Repeaters](https://www.resonantfractals.org/Echolink-Cable/Repeaters.html)

The RA-40 in Dave’s article resulted in the RA-DR1X that also works with the DR-2X.

I have the DR-2X operational with AllstarLink in the FM mode using an external SCOM 7330 controller (internal controller essentially disabled) and the RIM-SCOM 7330 on a RPi. If you want to bridge between AllstarLink and the digital then I recommend joining [dvswitch.groups.io](http://dvswitch.groups.io) who are addressing digital to analog bridging. Having said that, I don’t know how it would interface with the Yaesu which uses an external analog controller, but I’d ask the dvswitch group if someone has identified a configuration using a bridge with the Yaesu before giving up on the idea.

We utilize Allstar and some custom built electronics for our DR-1X repeater. Have a look at MABEL at [https://www.customcomms.net/products](https://www.customcomms.net/products)

Here is the cable interconnect:

DR2-X URI Interface:

URI DB25 pin to DR2-X 15 pin

1 to 2 & 1
8 to 3
13 to 5 & 12
21 to 9
22 to 7

If you want to interface wiresx/fusion/digital to allstar, it takes two radios on same frequency and put the hri200 in analog output. I did it for fun and works well.

Does this interface allow for blocking your own CW or voice ID from going out on the nodes?

Your question is not very ‘pointed’.

Of course, it would be dependant on the path of the audio as to where it was generated and if coming from a hardware audio stream into the system.

app\_rpt/ASL software has control of what it generates to each node under it’s control.
See the stanza settings in rpt.conf for the node in question.

I have my DR-2x connected to All Star and the DR-2 will receive both analog and C4FM and send voice out through AllStar link.

My Dr-2x transmit is set for FM out only. This so KH6JPL repeater will communicate to all users, analigvor C4FM.

Hi Billy

I’m in the process of connecting my AllStar node to my DR2-X repeater. If you used the 10 pin acc connector, please tell me what 5 pin’s you used to connect to the URI interface. I’m having issues and the more I look at Yaesu drawings the more confusing it gets. This is what I’m using.

acc connector

Pin 1 audio into the Rptr

Pin 2 ground

Pin 3 ptt active low

Pin 4 n/c

Pin 5 audio output

Pin 6 COS active high

Pins 7-10 n/c

I’m using a Pi5 with ALS3. I can cause the Pi to key the Rptr and send an adjustable tone. When I transmit into the repeater and looking at the RX level the audio level does jump up and down, however DTMF tones flicker up scale only once and then drops to zero while I’m holding the DTMF button down.

I can connect to the 55553 test node ( looking at the node on the internet) but no audio of any kind comes back to my node.

Any suggestions or ideas will be appreciated.

George
