A poster on app_rpt-users (might have been @buddy) posted a question…

At the risk of opening a can of worms (who’s ever put worms in a can anyway?), what impact will this have on the recent discussion of forked and unreleased code, if any?

Our motives are purely altruistic. We want to see the only the best for the entire community, both long and short term. Everyone benefits when Allstar is Open Source. We hope to see any forked Allstar source released per the GPL.

Personally, I also like to see the fighting and name calling over this issue end. Hopefully this will put an end to that.

Howdy Buddy,

AllStarLink, Inc., is now in a position to defend the Open Source position of the project. It is our hope that anyone who has (or will) fork the code base will comply with the obligations of Open Source, as they did prior to Jim Dixon’s death, and release their source code.

Agreed. That’s as it should be.

Can we ask how you obtained those rights? This would clarify some stuff.

Not that think you did not, just saying that someone could argu that no one could obtain this rights…

Members of the AllStarlink Board of Directors knew Jim and his family, were close friends and/or worked with him. It was through those contacts and with the help of a lawyer that we optained the Copyrights and other material.

This is a GREAT news…

Now if some other group understand the law we will be done with some sad conversation…

Thank you to all involved for this effort. I know this is how Jim would have wanted things to be. Moving forward, hopefully we all can.

A post was split to a new topic: Install On Windows Computer?

Excellent news!
I hope certain others start to respect the spirit of Open Source now.
